A regular student at my high school goes to school everyday from 7:30-2:05. (school hours) In that time, they are enrolled for 6 classes. This is consists of the regular classes we all so love to hate. english, math, history, science, and depending on if you need it P.E. as well as your elective or two. Obviously your grade depends on the combination of the required classes blah blah blah moving on..

Well, my state does not require a language to graduate, and only 2 years of science. However, I would like to go to college, so 3 years of science and 2 years of a language it is! I'm taking chemistry and starting American Sign language (Yes, colleges count this as a language.) So there's two classes already taken up. Oh yeah, let's get English, Math, and history in there too, the required classes for graduating. That's 5 classes I've signed up for, each and everyone I have no choice if I want to graduate and go to college. My last class? Wind ensemble of course, many of you know I absolutely love music and everything to do with it. Okay, cool 6 classes. I guess I should mention that the math class is two courses in one year (algebra 2 and pre-calc) So that's going to be tough.

Anyway, let's keep going. Since I am the best trombone player, I feel obligated as well as I really want to, to do Jazz band. That starts at 6:30 in the morning, and goes until 7:30. Okay, so now that's 7 classes I'm taking, plus an extra hour of school in the morning. No big deal, I did it last year. 6:30-2:05 at school is nothing new. I also will be taking health online this year. It's either that or I take it my senior year, in a class that most people take as a sophomore.. no thank you, I don't want to be "that guy."

so.. 8 classes, and there's going to be a ton of homework with the math class, health class online, and what is sounding like a much more difficult music program so I'm going to have to find time to practice, but I think I'll be able to manage the music side of it during school during tutorial(you'll see why not at home later). Okay, so shit load of homework, and learning a new language is what I'll be facing for Junior year. Not too bad.. 2 extra classes and an hour long extra school day.. I'll live. Oh, I guess I'll throw this out there, A couple people from jazz band want to start a jazz combo, and asked me to be in it. For you uneducated jazz people a jazz combo consists of 1-3 wind instrument players (saxophone, trombone, or trumpet) and a rhythm section (Guitar, Bass, drums, piano.) Something I definitely would love doing, because it has a lot of soloing, and it's just more music playing for me, which again, I love, so I'm going to try and do. I guess if you REALLY count that, that could be another class. so 9 classes...

Wow, such a busy year, but It still sounds do-able with all of THAT. Oh, wait, you think that's it? Nope. I still have 2 seasons of sports(football then wrestling) that all together take up about the first semester and a month into the second. Practice get's over at oh, I don't know, 5:00, 5:30? so I'm at school for about 11 1/2 hours. Everyday. Until middle of February. With a lot of homework. There's a reason I'm trying not to take any AP classes...

I'm just freaking out about how busy I'm going to be next year, and sports do not help at all. I want to keep taking private lessons, But that obviously isn't going to be possible the way the year is planning out. I mean, I could always practice when I get home from football/wrestling practice, but then I've got that homework, or at least spend time with the health class online... If I practiced trombone after football/wrestling, I'd get finished with that at about 6:45 for a short practice.. then I like eating. so, I wouldn't be able to start homework until I don't know, 7:30. So, practicing at home is out of the question if I'm going to be swamped with homework, so no more private lessons.

But, that brings up this. I could always not do sports, and that would open up a lot of time AND energy for my musical needs, as well as academics. Oh, and you should all know, my mom isn't happy with a B. I always get that bullshit "I know you can do better" response. I got a 4.0 last semester (Sophomore year total GPA was averaged out at 3.94 I think.) and all I got was a "Good job." A good job for straight A's all year, except one B+ in English the first semester.

Got sidetracked... Anyway, not doing sports would definitely open up time for me to possibly to keep taking lessons, and if not I could still become a better musician. But, Not doing sports would also get me mad amounts of hate from some of my closest friends, and the few friends I've made because of sports.. Plus I know my parents would NOT be happy with not being able to see me play sports. I'm not even very good at them though!

That's something that annoys me. My strongest skill is playing my trombone, and I can just TELL they are never excited about going to a concert and hearing me play, and I generally have at least one solo because of jazz band. But, when it comes to me getting my ass kicked in a sport, for some reason they're excited as hell to go to a football game or wrestling meet. I know this isn't their thinking, but still...

Anyway, I just needed to get this out. This has been bugging me since I've started picking classes for Junior year.. which was 3 or 4 months ago. All I can think about is how I might become some stress freak and become depressed, again. I just hope it's not as hard as I'm making it seem...

I'm signed up for 8 classes next year, when students at my school normally take 6. plus me and my friends want to start a jazz band, and I want to keep taking lessons. Football and wrestling is going to make it just THAT much harder.
