Wow you got that backwards, water can cause cramps in your sides by having too much fluid in your stomach among other things but not drinking will cause your muscles to cramp, badly. Drink alot of water, always stay hydrated, you'll operate better and won't fry. But you can over do it, your body is regulated by sodium and water, if you drink too much water your sodium levels get low and you get in trouble, not enough and your system runs dry your even worse off. Drink water and some Gatorade, should be like 3-1 towards water though since gatorade has some other things in it for flavor that make you cramp. Best thing is not to try and get all your fluid intake BEFORE you play, that causes cramping, you have to reguate your water intake throughout the entire day.

But yeah vitamin C and potasium (Bananas and OJ) are pretty good at preventing cramps, but never deprive your body of water.

I always have problems with leg cramps when I'm moving from side to side in a car wash or sometimes moving around in snake. Is there anything else worth trying besides stretching and bananas?

Start goin to the gym and train ur muscle.

the cramps are probly cuz is the only time on the week u use ur legs..

sodio!! u get that from salt! if u eat whitout salt ur gonna get cramps for sure. my english is not the best so hope u understand..
eating a banana might not be a good idea while playing. when ur done playing then its a great idea.
i used to bodybuild and to get ready for a contest i had to cut the salt. when i walked to do my cardio on the diet whitout salt OMFG sometimes i got this crazy cramps! ones i got my legs my stomatch and my arms cramp at the same time HORRIBLE.

drink A LOT of liquid. dont ever think u are not supose to drink much thats bullshit ur gonna get tired faster if u dont.
only try to drink small portions at a time. not a whole glass at ones. i hope this helps someone. im so sorry i cant really say what i know cuz my enlgish kinda suks. but good luck and keep playing.

everyone is saying "bananas". as a substitute (for those that may not like bannanas), you can research foods that may be high in potassium. unfortunatly i dont know off hand what those foods might be, but the potassium in bananas is what stops the cramps.

To prevent cramps first of all you want to be drinking water the day before you go play, not the morning of. If you are getting lots of cramps while you play then try 2 glasses of OJ in the morning (another good source of potassium) along with a banana. Drink water in between games but drink it in moderation at room temperature, and bring a banana or two to the field just in case. Everyone is saying bananas because it works! But orange juice is another great source of potassium.

for leg cramps I usually sit down and stretch out my legs. 99% of the time leg cramps are due to not stretching your legs out, or not stretching them out right. for side cramps, just sit on the floor and bring one leg all the way up to your chest. and breath in and out deeply for like 15-20 seconds, maybe more, maybe less.

Something my high school football team has done every game the past 4 years, drink 1-2, 6-8oz glasses of pickle juice same effect as the banana but it's an alternative to eating a banana for those that may not like banana's or are allergic.

if you just get cramps while you play just breath through them. long in through the nose and out through the mouth. focus on breathing from your diaphragm and not your chest. Visualize your muscles soaking up your oxygen rich blood. (Y)

HIGH potassium (more than 225 milligrams per 1/2 c. serving)

These foods would be beneficial to athletes or to others who incur heavy fluid loss. Patients on potassium-restricted diets should avoid them, or eat them sparingly, as advised by their nutritionist.

All meats, poultry and fish are high in potassium.

Apricots (fresh more so than canned)

Avocado

Banana

Cantaloupe

Honeydew

Kiwi

Lima beans

Milk

Oranges and orange juice

Potatoes (can be reduced to moderate by soaking peeled, sliced potatoes overnight before cooking)

Prunes

Spinach

Tomatoes

Vegetable juice

Winter squash

MODERATE (125 - 225 mg per serving)

These foods can be a large part of most people's balanced nutrition plan. Persons restricting their potassium might be cautioned to include no more than one or two servings from this list per day, depending on their medical restrictions.

Apple juice

Asparagus

Beets

Blackberries

Broccoli

Carrots

Cherries

Corn

Eggplant

Grapefruit

Green peas

Loose-leaf lettuce

Mushrooms, fresh

Onions

Peach

Pears

Pineapple

Raisins

Raspberries

Strawberries

Summer squash, including zucchini

Tangerines

Watermelon

LOW potassium (less than 125 mg per serving)

These foods give less electrolyte value per serving for people who need to increase their potassium levels.

They should be a major part of the menu plan for people limiting their intake.

Apples

Bell peppers

Blueberries

Cabbage

Cranberries

Cranberry juice

Cucumber

Fruit cocktail

Grapes

Green beans

Iceberg lettuce

Mandarin oranges, canned

Mushrooms

Peaches, canned

Pineapple, fresh

Plums

A Lack of Calcium in your diet can cause MAJOR cramps!!! I have had that problem for a long time. I don't drink milk, i just think it tastes foul and the texture is nasty, but if you're like me then you may want to consider taking Calcium supplements. The Calcium can also help get rid of the lactic-acid that you have in your muscles. Bananas can help too, just watch the sugar, Bananas have good amounts of potassium but wayyy to much sugar. So try that, and you may feel better, I still wake up in the night with MONSTER leg/hip cramps. But your body need 1000mlg of Calcium daily, so try taking 1 500mlg supplement in the morning and 1 at night. Then you've got your calcium and you will see an immediate change. Remember though, your body can only process about 500mlg of Calcium at one time, so thats why you should take on in the morning and one at night. One of the biggest things to realize also though, if you're in a major growth period then you will have more cramps than most people, but still, make sure you get that calcium and potassium
My sig was edited because it was not within the rules. Images used in signatures are to be less then Width of 600px, and height of 160px. Only ONE image is aloud in the signature, and it must be 30k or less. Only 5 lines of text are aloud. No text larger then size 2 is aloud in the signature.

quick tip, if you are having terrible cramps. Take at least 3 shots of pickle juice, sounds gross i know, but it has enough potassium and sodium to melt the cramps away quick so you can start working hard again.
