So not to long ago I was into rc drift cars and I bought TONS of crap for them. Along with that crap was some 8x10 carbon fiber vinyl sticker sheet (about $5 a sheet can be found at rc hobby stores) So I was looking that the sheet that I never used and then looked at my phantom **idea**.

So all I did was wipe down the body with a micro fiber towel and cut a section of the sheet to fit body (very simple since it's just a tube). Then I just simply peeled and applied it to the body. Then I turned on my electric stove burner on high and slowly rotated the body with the sticker applied. It then will start to shrink on the body and any holes and slots on the body will be clearly exposed. Then I took my xacto knife and cut out the holes and slots then put it back over the burner. It's actually very durable and the heating process seems to harden it a bit too. I want to experiment a bit more with different styles of bodies. Since your heating the vinyl it melts and can easily conform to any body lines or contours.

and Carbon Fiber Phantom anyone? lol

It would be so light if it all was carbon fiber. If I had the time I would attempt it lol. I always wanted to learn to work with carbon fiber.

Thanks, I painted (and made) the hood and thought it would look good in the pic lol.

I want to do the frame aswell but it will be a little bit more complicated. The body and tube weren't a problem cause the edges of the vinyl end under the frame so they can't peel off from wear but I think the frame would be more prone. Unless the edges were under the grips and over the frame so the body sat on it. But I think I will just keep it simple.

I know there are carbon fiber phantom parts but it's mostly ghost rings. Plus I just got bored and it took 30 minutes and $5 to do.

Not really related, but on the topic of carbon fiber, some guy is trying to make a carbon shocker from scratch on the nation.

Yeah I'll check on it now and then. I think someone posted a pic of their CF phantom it was like 75% CF still looked legit.

Just heat it up and apply it slow so it forms to the contours without air bubbles.

Rc hobby shops have plenty of vinyls. Just stop into one more then likely they will have the carbon fiber.

A word of warning - Please heat up in a well ventilated area. Heating up vinyl releases dioxins which are one of the most cancerous substances around. Inhaling them is not reccommended. Thats why victims of house fires with vinyl siding usually die from dioxin poisoning or the cancer therafter.

I used to be a consultant for hazardous materials, so just giving you a heads up.

Looks great though. I may have to do this myself.

Yeah good note to put, I'm not 100% sure if it is vinyl but it seems like it is.

i'm planning on doing this to my tippmann, but i'm using 3m di-noc carbon instead. looks more realistic and doesn't cost that much more. we'll see how it turns out; a tippy a5 has a few more curves and whatnot than your phantom does.

here's a short video showing the different colors available. since the frame a lower part that i'm not planning to cover are black, i chose graphite for more contrast.

Carbon fiber is stronger than steel :P It would hold firing an actual bullet.

Does anyone have an online link to a site that sells sheet of stickers like this?

Maybe start a Occupy Windhelm movement. Start piling up items outside the doors of the house. Those Occupy movements totally changed how banking and society interact so I'm sure it will work for you.
