awesome shot
if you spent some time in photoshop getting rid of the background, it would be a very solid picture.
the wrinkles in the back ground are really distracting.

Looks cool. I'm liking the sharpness, the reflection, and the specular highlights on the marker body. I agree with ^^^ that the background kind of gets in the way, and absorbs the black barrel. I'd be tempted to try a "hair light" above to make the top of the marker pop out from the background a bit.

I really like the top portion of the gun right in front of where the barrel starts, the shadows are really cool.

As for the background, I actually like it my self, the lines add to the picture.
Yeah, I have no sig, deal with it...

Thanks for your input guys! I tried several different lighting options and I liked this one the best. I used a small overhead color-corrected light table. As for the background, I could probably smooth out at least some of the bigger wrinkles to smooth it out a bit, the original picture had a bunch of scratches on the black plastic on the bottom that i had to get rid of. If you guys are interested, I can post more pictures.

The reflective bottom is a nice touch. Try for the Rule of thirds though. I'm not much of a photography guy, but even I know that the center of focus on a photograph shouldn't be the direct center of it. The tank is also a bit distracting. Other than that, nice job. I personally don't find the background distracting at all.

How in the hell did you manage bringing a marker and tank into a classroom? I don't even..

Well, usually when taking stock photos of things that have a definitive "front", you photograph it from the front to keep the image interesting and engaging. Markers, vehicles, etc. Taking a photo of the marker with the tank extending outward and the front/barrel disappearing back into the vanishing point gives the wrong feeling to the viewer. Rather than the first thought being "oh shit, a paintball gun that's legit", it could be (as it was with me) "Eh... kinda odd that the first thing I see is a big ol' white lump thing..... oh, there's a marker behind it"

The lighting on the marker itself is fine, but I would get rid of the lighting on the background. The background and the marker are basically the same color, and if they're also illuminated the same it makes it more difficult to distinguish the two. Keep dark backgrounds dark.

Now this is nothing technical, but personally I would have extended the background fabric thingy to drape over the surface and then set the marker on it. It makes the main subject pop more over a single continuous background rather than be cut in half by the transition between the fabric to the surface. Also, this is just me but if I were to photograph something on a reflective surface, I'm intending to photograph the reflection just as much as the subject. Having it cut off by the bottom of the frame leads my eyes from the marker (where you want them to be), following the reflection down to where it suddenly ends and suddenly I'm not looking at the picture anymore.

Overall, good job. Jim and Bob give it an 8.7

Very good shot! Different background something more solid although the colors are close to the color of the marker the wrinkles and lines take your eyes off the subject but other wise very nice!

+1

I also subscribe to the philosophy of Carl Segan. The solution to all of our problems is figuring out the universe. Our differences as people: rich or poor, Muslim or Christian, white or black simply fade away when we understand our true position in the universe - our true purpose to explore, learn and understand.
