The stock bolt on the 09 Impulse is hollow, and prone to rollbacks. The intermittent eye readings, combined with a few clipped paintballs every now and then prompted me to make my own flat faced bolt.

Here it is on the gun. It's not the prettiest thing, though I'll probably end up removing material to make it look better.

These next two pictures illustrate the rollback issues with the stock bolt, and how much better the new bolt is.

does it affect cycling or efficiency/consistency, since its a new bolt. or does it weigh the same. what did you use to make it

I used a delrin rod left over from other projects. I don't know how it affects efficiency or consistency, since I don't have any paint to test it with right now, but it hasn't affected the cycle rate or feel of the gun so far. I'll be adding a shooting vid over the chrono to test for consistency as soon as I can.

The spacing and number of holes in the bolt face isn't exactly ideal, but this bolt was more a proof of concept than an actual finished design. I may end up making another more refined design.

I'm not too worried though, as the main problem was the rollback causing the eyes to not see the paint, or clipping the next paintball up since it's sitting so far into the breech, and this new bolt solves those problems.

Thanks! It actually rides on two o-rings inside of the breech on either end, as well as one on the back of the bolt to prevent blow back air. Like I said before, this was made out of left over delrin I was using for pressure testers, so it's not the best quality (which you can probably see on the bolt itself, with lots of surface fraying). I'll probably get some better delrin and re-make the bolt, along with a bigger flow path through the front

Somehow I don't think I can compete with the Cure 3, Pooty or TechT.

hit the delrin with a new carbide insert and faster RPM ;)
The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

I'll try that. Every time I run my lathe at high speeds it gets really noisy, so I've taken to running it somewhere in the mid-range.

I've had best luck turning thermoplastics using a negative rake tool (on the recommendation of rednecksniper on MCB). Works well on both Delrin and Teflon, and works rather well across a wider range of speeds than a more common positive rake insert does. This is one that I ground:

Interesting. I'll definitely have to give that a try one of these days.

Do most SP markers have crazy rollback?

No idea, since the Impulse is my only SP marker. All I know is the bolt is very open, and sits a couple of millimeters back from the breech. Plus, the front of the bolt at the top is a little indented, probably from the wear. That, combined with the super small paint my field uses has led to a few clipping fractures in the paint every now and then.
