I'm the Diet Pepsi Nazi, I drink like 2 diet Pepsi's minimum a day, It hasn't had any side effects on me yet and my weight stays under control. Diet Pepsi has 1 calorie regular Pepsi and coke has from 190 to 260 calories and those are empty calories. If you want to be healthy skip the soda and have water.

I don't want to be rude, but if you're on a diet, why not just stop drinking soda all together!?!

I'm sure you'll do yourself a lot more good if you just drink water instead.

Regular soda is terrible for you. It's full of sugar and calories. Diet soda is better for you than Regular soda so switching will help alot. If you really get motivated, switching to water would be the best, but I know that's hard to do when you are starting out.

soda, ANY kind of sodas, no matter what brand, what level of diet it is, which colour, which flavour, ANY soda is not a good drink. PERIOD.

good drinks are water and natural freshly squeezed fruit juice which you do yourself in your kitchen. And that's about it. animals don't drink sodas, animals don't put on weight.

Drop the soda altogether. it will also help you with farts, inflated belly, burps..etc..all the things which women really like..!!

good luck

I think one of the issues that have been studied is that the sweetened taste can cause your body to crave sweets even more, so it can cause you to snack more, munch on stuff, etc

good Devon, but do you mean "iced tea" from the supermarket? as well as juices? these so also have much more sugar in them than home made iced-tea and juice, but at least do not have the added gas to make them fizzy.

Water and freshly squeezed juice my friend!! good on you for losing weight and getting in shape though, keep it up!!!

Diet Soda is better than Regular, and water is better than both.

As far as diet soda goes, they all (as far as I have seen) have aspertame in them which can have some side affects. Also, there have been some studies that have shown that the artificial sweeteners (aspertame) can actually make you crave sugar more, and therefore in many people cause them to eat more sugar and actually gain weight.

Diet soda contains fake, processed sugar that is made in factories. Think about that for a second. I do not drink soda however, I'd rather put natural sugar in my body rather then processed sugar.

Ahh, didn't see where you were from. If diet soda is an economical option, then don't be afraid of it. Water (and iced tea, since it is made from water) are better for you, but not if the water is not good :)

Just do the best you can. Here in the US we have a bunch of health nuts, and bottled water is cheap and common place.

Actually believe it or not, Diet soda is worse for your stomach than normal soda is. Sure diet soda may not have as many calories, but the chemicals in it are horriable for your stomach. You're really better off just drinking water instead of soda if you can, or atleast try to limit yourself to one maybe every 2 or 3 days. That way, you're still having your loving can of soda, but with a limit to stop yourself from doing too much harm. Water's really the way to go though. It's so neutral, it's unbelievable

EDIT: oops, saw your last posts. yea, if you have bad faucet water, stick to iced tea. way better than soda

bwahah, don't know about anyone else but that just cracked me up.

diet anything sucks! so does obesity but hey if youre trying to lose weight why not try something completely different like iced tea? if you feel that soda is such a prob, shake it. diet soda is just a band aid and not really addressing a conclusive resolve to the problem. its like drug clinics giving methadone or valium to a heroin addict. theyre still addicted, just to what they view as a lesser of the 2 evils.

That doesn't mean it will kill your stomach - It has chemicals in it for it not to destroy your insides (that won't stop it from being 'bad', because it still irritates) ~ As a whole, I stay away of soda as much as possible. It is acid, contains too much sugar and makes me even more thirsty.

Diet soda does not use processed sugar. They use non-natural sweeteners (for the exception of Splenda which is a modified sugar molecule) like aspartame. That is the most commonly found artificial sweetener. There have been tests showing that aspartame breaks down into two chemicals when it reaches room temperature: formaldehyde and phenylketoneurics. To what amounts it produces these two chemicals I do not know. I'm sure a Google search could give you that information. Thank former Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for aspartame. He lobbied on behalf of his company for a long time to get the FDA to pass the junk which soon happened after he gained public office. Before him the FDA would not approve it for use. It was originally developed for use in drugs.

Diet soda also contains a lot of phosphoric acid which can leech calcium from your body and bones making them soft and prone to breakage in high amounts. Regular soda is still horrible because the large amounts of high fructose corn syrup in it causes your body to dump tons of glucose into your blood system. To balance things out your pancreas works overtime to create enough insulin. After awhile your pancreas will get burned out and stop creating insulin for you and that will lead you straight into diabetes. A person should never have more than 1 regular soda in a day, especially with all of the other processed sugars we ingest in the rest of our foods.

Making the switch from soda to water is kind of a rough one...you will be good for 2-6 days of shugar and caffeine withdrawls, but pack some tylenol and be prepaired for it. once you get clear of that its all good from there...you will over-all feel better. that switch is totally worth it.

caffeine also stimulates the release insulin which will make you want to eat.

and aspartame caused cancer when consumed at rates of 2500 mg/kg/day i think for a period of 2 years in rats. figure out how much aspartame you would have to consume as a full size person.

cheers.

100% true, regular soda is extremely unhealthy, but diet is even worse, its all fake and the human body is not ment to digest chemicals in place of natural sugars, the natural sugars are better for the human body then the fake sugars are

diet soda is much better for you than regular. the only possible bad point is what mike said, that you may tend to eat sweeter foods with it, plus caffeine is still not too great for you.

but unless you want to stop drinking coffee, tea, soda, and whatever else you can find with caffeine in it, you don't need to worry about it. like all other things, just drink diet soda in moderation.

The artificial sweeteners in diet soda are not natural so your body rejects them. Which is why they put additives in there which confuse your liver and allow things that aren't very good for you into your bloodstream and eventually to your brain.

aspartame is metabolized to aspartic acid, methanol, and phenylalanine. aspartic acid and phenylalanine are both amino acids, and the amount of methanol (which is toxic in large enough doses) is minuscule.

Most diet sodas in addition to aspartame also use saccharin which actually leads to obesity rather than promoting weight loss.

aspartame and saccharin are not intended to promote weight loss. why you thought that im not sure. they are sugar substitutes.

saccharin is sweet n low...and i dont think anyone uses it diet pop. and just because someone isn't a Dr. don't count out their credibility...some very brilliant people stop at masters level education, or lower.

the amount of ignorance in this thread is disgusting. i can't type the pages of information it would take to set all of this crap straight, but i'll try to address points.

actually, i don't have to. for anyone who wants REAL facts, supported by REAL data, just follow the link to the Skeptoid page below.

http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4127

the Punkworks section on this forum is well-received because it strives for solid data on claims within paintball, yet this thread is littered with idiotic nonsense about sugar, soda, sweetener, and the non-existent effects of them.

instead of going with trendy conspiracy theories about everything, try thinking critically, of how your body works, and find that what you think you know about soda, is untrue.

for those that don't want to read the article, just listen to the audio. it's a nice reading of it, and should make you people a little more intelligent.

water with lemon is a great choice. not only is it just water, but citric acid (lemon juice) is a diuretic. helps to keep you from retaining some water. it also quenches thirst better than plain water.

however, with tea you still run into the caffine, which stimulates insulin release and makes you want to eat.

Just try to drink water, and then every once in a while have a diet soda on a special occasion or w/e, definatly dont just have one for dinner. I have Diabetes so i guess in a way im lucky because i cannot have regular sodas. Pretty soon you forget what regular sodas even taste like. Ice water tastes much better than room temp, just try having that every night if you're not interested in Milk or Juices.

I know that some people cant process the "fake sugar" and it blocks up and can kill ppl. I personally hate the taste and rather not drink soda, but the ones i found to not taste horrible are. Diet rootbeer A&W or barqs, coke with lime is very good. Also you can try buying propel to drink. Thats what i do theres only like 20-40 calories in one of their bottles of water. You can also buy powder packs to poor into your own water bottles.

Also it is proven that a lot of sodas have salt in them, which cause you to be more thirsty after the drink. Rootbeer is a great example. First can is just too delicious, the next one is just terrible tho.
You should also look into things that give u exercise and are fun to you.

aspartame has been shown to turn into fermeldahide in some lab studies so if i was you i wouldn't put that crap in my body. Regular soda is better for you than diet but it is still very bad so i just stick to water.

All sodas make your body hold onto fat its just diet sodas have less calories but it will still hold onto fat so if you want to loose fat do not drink soda.

Studies show that diet soda makes you eat more in the long run due to the taste, it makes your body feel hungrier.
Yet in the short run it makes your body feel more full due to the amount of released CO2.

Diet soda contains fake, processed sugar that is made in factories. Think about that for a second. I do not drink soda however, I'd rather put natural sugar in my body rather then processed sugar.

100% true, regular soda is extremely unhealthy, but diet is even worse, its all fake and the human body is not ment to digest chemicals in place of natural sugars, the natural sugars are better for the human body then the fake sugars are

Instead of drinking that diet crap try swiching to a v8 juice, tasty and good for you

Drinking diet soda has some pros and cons
-- Diet soda no sugars for your body to burn instead of buring fat so it will help w/ that. But it does have sodium witch will make your store water wieght, which will make you feel bloated. Drinking juice isn't really any better, for loosing weight that is. Juices do have vitamins and antioxidents that your body needs, but juices are loaded w/ sugar which will raise your insulin level and causing you to store fat. You're body won't know the difference between sugars from orange juice and sugars in pop.
--- the best thing you can do is drink water. And if that is hard then get some Crystal light to add to it.
