Just wanted to let you guys know that this Sunday marks the date for this years Perseids Meteor shower. The peak of it is at 12 midnight EST and its estimated you will see atleast 100 Meteors per hour. So mark the calender and sit out there for a few hours as it is going to be one amazing show! I will be out there most of the night and will be sure to share my pictures with you guys on Monday :)

I have to send my D3 in to the workshop. Somehow my sensor got scratched when I was sleeping. Last picture I took before I put my camera away was fine, the first one the morning after had tons of artifacts on it.

Oh well, I have insured it up the ass and this should be covered by that insurance. And I got a D7000 to play with while it's gone. I'm not complaining. :P

Just got the free trial of LR4, and I may buy it at student prices of $60 :D

for some reason when ever I look at my pictures at 1:1 they dont look sharp, even when shot at F/ 9 :(
Anyone want to take a look?
Spoiler

Go to full sizes and look at the 2k x 1k image, or download it and go to 1:1, I just doesnt look sharp

Nikon 50mm 1.8G, and an 18-55.
I don't think it's backfocusing because it focuses quite well on objects.
The only thing is that when viewed at 1:1, they don't look sharp. Like look at the photo I posted, download it and look at it 1:1, it just doesn't look good.
How can I check if my camera is backfocusing?
(the best, is that if it is, i have a 3 year warranty from the store I bought it from, and they will cover hte repair cost. :D )

I've been interested in photography for about a year. Took Photography 10 just as a filler course, using my mom's Rebel XSi and I really enjoyed it, enough to sign up into Photo 20 the next semester (and now Photo 30).

Recently acquired a Canon T3i for $500, awesome camera so far. Using the kit lens, as I'm broke :P

EDIT: Oh and here is my deviantart page... my old stuff isn't great. http://mokothemonkey.deviantart.com/

Anyone seen the new D600 from Nikon?
It's essentially an 24mp full format sensor in a D7000 body.

Holy fuck that camera looks like an awesome one. Maybe it's not that far into the future when APS-C sensors are just for the cheapest DSLRs.

Yup, that's me.

Also, I just found out the D600 can only go to a shutter of 1/4000.
Dammit, I would most likely have changed cameras if it went to 1/8000.

It still looks like a kickass camera. But if I'm using a fast lens in bright weather 1/4000 ain't even gonna be close to good enough.

By the way Chris, how do you like that Tokina glass? Been kind of looking at one of those.
Currently I'm looking at the 24-120 f/4 from Nikon. That would be a great allarounder for both stills and video.

I love my tokina 12-24, just as sharp if not sharper than my sigma 24-70! I paid 285 USD for it with a 6 month warranty and it was worth every single penny haha Only downside is that its a dx lens and wont work on FX :(

If you have any questions on it just let me know :)

The D600 looks like a great camera but if I had 2000$ I think I would just buy a used D700. Also if you utilize ND filters on your large aperture lens you can shoot wide open without any issues on the D600.

Good ND filters are expensive. I'd rather use that money on something else.
I don't want to run around with an ND filter when I'm street shooting, when I go inside somewhere I'd have to take it on and off.

D600 looked a lot cooler than the 6D to be honest. But the 6D looked sick as fuck.

I really can't hate Canon, I want to because I'm a Nikon fanboy, but I just can't. They make too many awesome products.
Canon and Nikon are both doing the photography world a real service by making these low-cost full frame cameras.
I hope this will catch on and that most DSLR's will use full frame sensors in the future
APSC sensors suck balls compared to 35mm.

And Sony, let's not forget Sony's great work by making these Sensors.

Pictures from this weekend.
First time trying the motion blur with water effect, any suggestion? I had a ghetto set-up, just a 4x4 laid across the little stream, and my camera sitting on it (with my hand holding the strap in-case something happened). Critique 'em please guys, I've never used this technique before, and would like some suggestions/critique.

Hmm....
D600 would be awesome if you do video (headphone and microphone jacks).
It's kinda slow for sports (5.5 FPS), and doesn't have 1/8000 shutter speed.
Other than that it looks amazing.
But I've heard that saving up for a D800 is worth it.

If I'm gonna change out my D7000 it would be for either a D800 or a D600. Most likely the D800.
Then I'll use the D3 for sports and the like and keep the D800 for pretty much everything else.

But before I even come close to doing that I'll need a Nikkor 24-120 f/4G and a Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8.
So it'll be a long while from now.

It irks me so much when someone says on a photo critique "it's just a...."
It's like seriously? That's the best way you could describe the photo? It's just a? How is that helpful at all?
On top, everything is just a, your house is just a house, your car is just a car, and you, well you are just that, you, a human.

all my legos are stored at my parents hose... so that wont be happening....
