Ok so in feburary I'm gonna be trying out for a team that plays D1 in the NPPL and was wondering if anyone has any tips for me. Escpecially since I have never played a tourney at all. Should I just go balls out ?

Is that even a question? Of course you should. Play as much speedball before hand as you can, practice all kinds of drills and be ready.

no tourney experience and your trying for d1?
good luck and stay positive
drill and play hard and smart
also if you don't have a jersey with your name on it get some tape and write your name on it so they know who you are
be respectful and polite

You do realize division 1 is semi-pro? Even with tons of drills and practice, it can't get you experience in one month that most of the div 1 players will have had for years. I don't know, maybe your an awesome player but I would recommend getting on a division 3 or 4 team to gain some tournament experience before going straight to semi-pro.

If your going to try out, show up early and introduce yourself to the coach/captain/team. Help set up if you can.

Try your hardest, play the best you have ever played. Make big moves and communicate with your team mates.

Show that you are willing to improve and are a dedicated player.

9 times out of 10 a team will pick a pretty good player with potential and a good attitude over an excellent player who is stubborn and cheeky.

Well, first off, are you financially stable? No team is going to like a teammate with no money. If you do, then good luck. Be nice, but don't kiss ass. Too many people do that. Good luck.

you can tryout, nothing wrong with that. NPPL and traveling is expensive, especially leaving from PA and 3/5 events are west coast. Practice on fundamentals before the tryout. If your snapping, run-n-gun, and shooting looks better than everyone else. And your communicating more than everyone else trying out. That is a plus. Everything else about NPPL format you can learn in practice in like a months time if you get picked up. Good luck!

Being fast on an airball field doesn't really need to be a factor. You're running on like, a 30-40 yard wide field and 60 yard long field.

I was in like 3 rookie tourneys before I even tried a D3 team but hey good luck with your tryouts. Look up Todd Martin pro tips and nicky cuba tips on youtube. Also it's better to do the basics great then the advanced stuff okay. So don't try and run half across the field off the break and taking risks is only good if you succeed. If you take a risk and fail you look stupid. And practice every single day. Even if it's just basic work out and snap drills with a mirror. And when communicating if at all possible use someones name. Saying "John, shoot D1" works a lot better then just D1, back snakes. Also, in paintball your not running a mile your sprinting for 50 yards. So explosiveness is better then stamina.

Going from no tournament experience to D1 NPPL is a big step; it's not something you can do in one day. And last I checked, you have to can't just go straight into D1.

Realistically you won't make it and will be in the first round of cuts (if you make it that far). You need to learn the ebb and flow of tournament all before you can make such a big jump. Play a local tournament or on a d4 national team. There are so many skills (physical and mental) that you won't have without having played your way through the ranks or with at least some tournament experience.

Yes they do, and they are consistently playing Sundays for the event win. Not an easy team to just hop on all willy-nilly.
