PSP released a few days ago that they would be making changes to the layout of the fields and bunkers.

And since the cat is out of the bag... here are the pics of those bunkers, so you don't have to go elsewhere...

"For the past 10 years, the Snake on an Sup'AirBall field has been pretty much the same. The Giant Beams, much wider and taller than their Hyperball predecessors, have been keeping front players safe from cross field lanes. Large knuckles, such as Cakes, Baby Bricks even Temples, protecting them from getting shot by their mirrors.
This Era has ended. The Snake will be technical again.

The 2012 season brings the Snake back to life with the addition of 2 new bunkers:
A shorter and more narrow version of the Giant Beam, the "Snake Beam" and a L shaped bunker, the "Elbow", will be the new components of the spectator side of the field.
Though there is still plenty of space to hide behind, tighter play and better timing will be required."

Elbow bunker:

Snake Beam bunker:

"On the PSP or the Millennium field, those 2012 bunkers not only bring a renewed interest on playing the Snake but also bring 2 extra bunkers to the set. The 6 Giant Beams from the previous seasons are replaced by 4 Snake Beams and 4 Elbows, which will increase the options for field layouts' designs.

The combination of Snake Beams and Elbows also frees up bunkers normally used as knuckles. Those extra bunkers will allow for shorter moves elsewhere on the field and a wider range of play options."

Good news guys XSV will now probably play PSP because Thomas can run completely down the snake standing straight up without being seen.

You have to get one big/tall/old one to distract the other team by going the opposite way :P

Now for everyone to cry because something has changed.

I think the new bunkers will solve the issue of the gap between cake & beam.

I also like that they're doing something different.. when I first started we played 10 man and the fields were crazy.. I miss that

We might see the return of the crack pipe bunkers in layouts.

In a way, the elbows suck when shooting against them from the inside because you cannot get that fine line between bunkers to eliminate a snake player up against a cake or wedge. But, if they completely eliminate knuckles (cakes, tombstones and wedges) in the snake for the elbows, it will completely change how you move and gunfight up the field because shooting cross field would expose you to everyone.

All cross field shots will have to be taken at the begging of the snake, instead of at the elbow. Looks interesting, I haven't played them yet so I can't really make a judgment. I think that these have the potential to change how we play the game, though.

I think this will make people better at fast target acquisition. if you want to shoot inside, put a stream on your mirror, then shoot inside, then get back it, repeat, ect..

Its gonna make it alot harder for us pump players when we play against electros, but in phoenix when my team is playing in the pump div., it should be intresting.

I've been meaning to ask is anyone playin pump Phoenix?

The new beams are not taller than the old ones - they are exactly the same height.

The are just shorter and more narrow, which makes them appear taller in the pictures.

The only changes to the 2011 field kit:

Exit 6 beams
Enter 4 new beams and 4 new angles

Tall snakes are so useless. If you try to pop up you get blasted. Dorito side will definetly be more dominant and teams will just have a snake corner to hold that side.

cool.

with the psp format, the snake loses some dominance right there (no more tuck and crossfield cover).

makes for more snake bunkering runs since the guy in the snake can only pop up for defending himself against a guy running the highway, making it easier for the guy running to hold the snake in.

This essentially kills the usefulness of the snake. You can't shoot inside anymore unless you deal with your tape first. That's stupid. The elbows need to be taller or else PSP has just nerfed the snake to the max.

Watch, when you get in there you are just going to be battling the tape. No one is ever going to shoot inside because 40% of your body will show as you go up.

You will have to 'wrap' which basically means this bunker is now the WEAKEST on the field unless there is no tape in which case of course you could crawl it and win the game.

I'm going to go learn how to play some doritos now, later

But the Ego 11 is shiny. :(

Dosent the Ego 11 only come in dust colours?

nah i love rito side.

However, I'd love to see those end bunker inverted so the snake is Flat right across, (toss knuckles in like usual) But with the beds pointed into the field, once you get into mid snake, you can shift to the other side and play some new angles.

Think of this side being the mesh, periods are nothing, the ___ are the beams, and the { } are the ends of those corners

This bunker will make going over the snake almost impossible, depending on the field layout.
Not sure if I like it or not. I'll find out quickly if Millennium does the same changes.

That's how they use to be until around 08-09 when PSP and NPPL moved to a one field format.

Remember that back in '07 and earlier the NPPL use to run 4 different fields teams had to play on for their tournaments.

I'm not sure I agree that shooting cross field shots will be impossible with the new bunkers, harder yes, however compared to the old nppl snakes, you still get a ton of cover with these snakes. Also, just because they have a new bunker doesn't mean they'll always use it.

this will change the game a lot... i mean a lot. like said cross field shots are going to be really hard. moving up may actually be easier. it looks entirely possible to dive over those "L"s. finishing games in snake will be all or nothing. get up or dont do much. unless other bunkers can be used to block out shots then exposure is huge. oh and if your the last guy in snake now your gonna die pretty hardcore. imagine the last point at cup with jrab in s1 with these bunkers. would have been done way faster. well galveston will be interesting

I'd have to play a game with it to see how it works out...

It does make playing snake much more harder, you couldn't look on the inside without showing you exposing your entire head. Posted Image

i don't like that. it will make the snake pretty much a tapeside thing. and those snakes in the 2003 video are brutal to play. my field brought one out. it was the hardest thing to play. ever

Their snake player is about 170cm tall, which is about 5'6" tall. He hardly fit. I think they made these bunkers for smurfs...
