I hope that us "non-field owners" can buy one. This would be a great gun to lend out to friends who have no idea what paintball is about.

I thought I seen these on ans....

No I havent but I also dont see how hard it is.

You take out 6 screws, clean it, screw it back together. And replacing 20+ guns doesnt seem like it would be worth it.

takes about 10 minutes to take them apart and clean them. each one.

rental fleet of 20 guns = about 3 hours of cleaning

7 dollar/hour wage = 21 bucks

just to clean your whole rental fleet. which needs cleaning every day, and sometimes multiple times per day.

my field has 60+rental guns, and equipment...

I bet Gino is going to be pissed. Valken JUST came out with a marker specifically for field owners.

i swear same type of design made by multiple companys is really weird. its like theres ninja paintball spys stealing your idea.

Or tippmann is just licensing the design to the other companies.

Straight from Emipre:

Actually yes. It was a market demand and two companies came out with it at the same time. That's how it works when people ask for a product that makes sense. Is it any coincidence that when a new smartphone comes out another company has one come out around the same time?

I'm pretty sure they're talking about the splitting the top open, not the design of the engine.

I would think they'd at least put a set screw in the collar or something like that, to keep people from unscrewing that on the field.

This marker features a three step procedure to disassemble. First, the barrel must be removed. The barrel O.D. is over sized so the locking collar cannot be unscrewed until the barrel comes off. Second, there's a button that needs to be pushed in on the front side of the vertical grip before the locking collar can be unscrewed. Third, unscrew the locking collar. The nice thing about this marker is that the only way its coming apart is if someone intends it to.

Is the body cast plastic? Kind of looks that way.

Theupper & lower receiver is cast aluminum. It's a very solid marker.

This would be great for fields, though considering the fact fields already have rentals, its gonna be difficult to sell all those 98 customs and spyders and vibes, and spend money on these. But great idea by tippmann at least. I really like the mask concept for rentals. Similar idea to what my local field does with proto el switches with thermal lenses for all the rental masks.

I don't understand why people are talking about repeatedly taking apart 98C's. You break it down once, pour some vegetable oil, butter, kool-ade, sand, or whatever you have near you and BAM! it will shoot forever.

just to clean your whole rental fleet. which needs cleaning every day, and sometimes multiple times per day.

Now that is a matter of opinion...we only cleaned the breeches of the guns and the barrels. The hammer got lube, but they'd only get broken down when something broke. That's pretty much what the 98 was designed to do.

When cleaning 60+ sometimes every day, and about breaking down 5 or more, placing that stupid little spring back into place, especially the small spring for the feedneck latch while putting the clam shell back together and holding it in place takes a bit.

Personally, i would rather own a fleet of G3/E1, little to no maitenece on the bolt and reg like every week. Slap them into Semi, a fleet of recharge batteries.

Splatterpark had 400 to 500 of these for rentals at the Big Game last weekend in Ohio. My girlfriend's son and my brother used them for the day. They worked extremely well we didn't have any issues with them. I asked an employee how the guns were working for them when we turned them in at the end of the day - he said they had about 6 of them that were leaking air right out of the box. So that's like a 1-2% failure rate out of the box so far? I guess time will tell how well they hold up, but they were definitely nicer than 10+ year old 98's.

From what I can see (this is in reference to first page concerns bout renters unscrewing the body while trying to clean barrel) you have to remove the barrel first before you can remove the collar. Therefore, if a renter were to want to clean their barrel (already an unlikely event) they would be able to do so without dumping the internals.

Sorry if someone already stated this, i'm too damn lazy to read all 5 pages.

Definitely true, but my closest local field has already switched over. Haven't seen them firsthand, but they have it. I don't know what happened with the 98's, though. Probably still have them when they don't have the FT's to rent out.

Got a chance to look at these today. They are awesome. Extremely easy to clean and maintain. The feedneck is off set, and the gun looks like an uzi, so rental players can look down the sights. All in all, I'm very impressed with this gun.

Why not just get the Tippy Gryphon?

Looks cool. Seems like a great idea for a rental gun, i just dont see many fields buying them due to the economy and the fact that 98s will last forever.

Went paintballing this weekend and sure enough both my boblong and fx blew orings. sooo...i was stuck renting lol. I was surprised when i was handed the Tippmann ft-12. Looks and feels like an uzi lol which is kind of funny. but other than that it worked pretty good. i could see all the tippmann 98's being replaced by these. Has a nice feel to it....a bit of a gas guzzler but it shot pretty good for a rental.

Jelly, these things are pretty sweet. I can see a lot of field owners getting a hold of this and never looking back to their old 98 fleets. It's sleek on the outside, so cleaning is a snap, and I got to take it apart yesterday, and maintenance looks to be a snap.

I agree that they are an awesome idea. I think that fields should get them but i just dont see it replacing ALL of the 98s a field has. or whatever the field uses as rentals.

I don't think it will be a straight replacement, like they get rid of their entire rental fleet of 98s, but I think they'll phase in the ff-12 a little at a time until they get back up to their original marker numbers.

You're forgetting about the 4 or so trigger pins and the spring you can't lose. Tiny buggers can grow legs on you if you're not extremely diligent.
