Hey guys - I'm curious how people choose paint - please mark as many choices above as apply to you. Feel free to respond to the post with more description about your paint choices.

For example - I play mostly at FPO venues - I buy the premium option if they have one but often don't have a choice so I marked those two options.

The guy I buy my paint from usually has 2 options. Premium and lower grade field paint. I always take the premium but lately it seems like im the only one who does
There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who think they can and those who think they can't. both of them are right.

I usually just buy the paint they have at my field. Which is valken and draxxus brands. I go for the cheapest case

I buy as expensive of paint as I can get because I hate having to shoot dimpled, old crappy Draxxus training paint. My local field has finally been convinced to carry low- high grade paint now, meaning they will be stocking Draxxus Gold, and GI gold so I will be shooting either of those two depending on which I like more.

For me its all about Performance. I hate shooting paint that doesn't break or that has a weak fill. So I normally stick with All Star, for me in my area its the most consistent paint box to box.

For practice I'll shoot almost anything as long as its gotten good feedback, but mostly mid end paint. Tournaments is different if it's a 3 man I'd still go mid end like delta or victory but when it comes to bigger ones like RPL and such it'll be evil or lava.

I'll just buy whatever is the best price for performance unless I would be doing a tourney then i'll spend a little extra to get higher quality.

price is the first thing i see. then after that the performance. depending on how well the case performs on that day, ill use it as a gauge for future reference and maybe try the next level.

even when its an FPO field, then its the same thing, start with the cheapest and work my way up.

I have to use field paint. Their best option is usually premium, and since I usually play pump, i can take the extra 2 dollar hit to get paint that won't frustrate me all day.

i play a FPO feild, and all the stock is Valken infinity, Graffitti and redemption

for walkon/pump play i just use Grafitti, good break rate, good fill and a nice consistent bore compared to the low

so i play FPO, and i go with the Mid grade option for $10 more than low and $5 less than high grade

Out field has three choices. Premium Gold, Evil, and Marb. If it's summer I go with Marb. A little expensive but has the best break to bounce ratio. Evil Bounces like crazy in the summer but it's really brittle when it's cold so I shoot it in the winter. The field doesn't carry Gold during the winter because we end up with too many damaged bags, but around fall/spring it's decent to shoot because it's pretty brittle on a cold day. I'd say 75% of the time I'll buy marb and the rest of the time I'm more likely to buy Evil.

if i have a choice i get the best paint i can... i feel like i save money in the long run. for the first time i went through only 1 case at a scenario cause they had Evils available for preorder, i've never shot so many people out with less than a case of paint.
sometimes though you don't get a choice and you just have to buy whats available.

I try to get the nicest paint I can afford, wether that's $60 each case, $50 each, or $35, no matter what I play. But since I made the leap into pump, I can sometimes stretch a case out to two trips, so I have been buying nicer stuff as of late, but since school is back in session, I have to work less hours. With me driving more so that i can get to school (15 miles way way, about 19 mpg in my car), gas costing more ($4.25 a gallon) and me only getting about 18 hours a week at work rather than about 25, mid grade paint stretched out to two trips to the field mainly playing pump has been what I've been doing lately, and there's a bigger gap between trips to the field :(.

Most fields I play at only carry 1 option for paint. I love shooting rps premium, allstar, or any other highend paint but unfortunately cant. The fields i do play at usually have fresh lower end paint that shoots straight enough. I just wish it was more brittle.

Other people's opinions, opening a bag and checking for dimples, flat spots, size consistency, how often it breaks on a person instead of bouncing, how well the fill sticks to the person, how bright the fill is, stuff like that.

For me it's how strait it flys, so I want the smallest seams and the least dimply paint possible, then by brittleness. I like stuff that flies strait and has a tight grouping and is fairly brittle,

If the paint shell is very smooth with a very small seam. Also if its dry (as in not oily) thats a good sign. Other stuff you can tell by like roundness, fill viscosity, how bright the fill is, how brittle the shell is. etc. etc.

its also a good sign when i accidentally spill a few paintballs on a concrete floor and they dont bounce across the room like a bouncy ball.

out of the three fields I play, two are FPO and one is BYOP, one of the FPO only carries high and low grade valken I usually buy the high unless I have no choice (they are doing the speedball practice for the layouts of huntington beach ant the moment so premium sells out fast) once sells multiple levels/ brands of paint so I usually buy mid to high grade from them and the byop field i usually buy mid grade from my local store valken grafiti mostly

Normally I shoot whatever paint I have left, I shoot paint from last summer, paint from my last game day, paint from a couple months ago, christmas gift paint, free paint I got at the field, and I just throw it all together.

The stuff is all about the same grade, I'd never think to mix high-grade with low-end! :P

Actually, I still have about 10 or 12 balls from the first case I ever bought (which was in july of last year) lying around!

After I finally run through ALL of that, I buy paint. When it comes to that...
Price is first. $60 is way too much for paint (imo), but $30 paint isn't that good. I'll probably buy paint in the $40-$50 range.
Accuracy is second.
Breakage is third.
Fill/Visibility is fourth.

The byop field sells G.I. 1 or 2 star, can't remember which. And rps premium. I buy the cheap stuff.

The FPO field sells custom blend $48 a casing & all-star $65 a case. I still buy the cheap stuff :P
