At the start of this semester my Alienware started to have some issues and has become unusable for sometime. So I borrowed an old Macbook 2,1 from my best friend, to use for school since i had bought all my books as E-text books. SInce i have had it in my possesion have replaced the battery (the old one was completely shot and wouldn't hold a charge at all) for a bout $100 and put in 4GB of 667Mhz ram to make it more user friendly. Now the semester is coming to a close and I am considering offering my friend some money for it. I was thinking $250- $300 bucks for it, But I am not entirely familiar with used mac pricing so what would be a fair price? And he is my best friend so i don't want to shaft him either.

Sorry probably should have added that. the specs are

CPU: Intel core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz
GPU: Intel GMA 950
Display 1280x8000
HDD: Toshiba 111GB @ 5400 RPM (I Have a brand new 320GB 7200RPM Barracuda waiting for it, if i purchase it)
Ram: Originally had 1GB at an unknown speed, but now has 4GB of 667mhz

And if it means anything its the Black Macbook.

I have tons of experience with PC's, so I can tweek the hardware if i purchase it, but as is how much would be a fair price?

Probably like $250-300. It's a really older Macbook.

Used Macs actually hold value pretty well, mostly due to brand name. I've seen Macs of that spec still pick up $600. Granted, you have already replaced the battery, upgraded the RAM, and looking to upgrade the HDD, and it IS your best friend, so you probably could get it for $200 without much talking, especially if he has another laptop that he uses, and the Mac would just be sitting around.

I will laugh as they overwhelm our enemies in a flurry of spotted banana hammocks.
