Why? Wait for the next tock. IB is only 10% increase. The next tock, will be 30% or something worth while.
Also, you can run 3.0 on SB.

SB isnt compatable with 3.0, only ivy bridge is. And haswell might not be compatable with broadwell, at least, thats what the speculation is.

The more I've been reading, the more I kind of want a 7870. They're only $100 more than the card I was looking at, but they're about 20-25% better from the benches I've been looking at.

Not only that, they compete with and BEAT cards that are $100-150 higher than them. AMD really is the way to go now, they really have it together where Nvidia is falling behind.

Nvidia isn't really falling behind. In rendering programs like Blender and Photoshop Nvidia is still the king. But for everything else, AMD is thrashing them.

Hm, for the low-mid high end gamer, AMD is beating Nvidia. But i suppose if youre going high end or doing anything that takes extreme gpu usage, Nvidia is still the top. AMD is just taking over a bigger section of the market than what they have had in the past.

How come you need wireless for your desktop? Just curious, also what gpu are you using?

A monitor with that high of contrast ratio you dont need unless youre going to playing in a well lit room. And i would suggest getting a monitor with a display port, but thats just me.

Well, I noticed a couple of days after I placed the order that they changed the pricing on that particular build from $700 to like $1100 or something. They may have canceled it because of a pricing bug in their system builder utility, but their website says "All sales final" so once I get a straight answer out of someone, I will throw that back in their face and make them give me that computer.

GPU is a XFX 6850 (it's listed :P )
And, yeah my rooms bright, but I'm also using it for photo and maybe video editing. More photo.
Oh and I need wireless because my rooms on the other side of the house :)
So my signal travels threw one brick wall, one floor, oh and about 5 interior walls.

I might be cheap and just buy the monitor, and HDD now, then slowly save up or accumulate money/pieces.

Fr what I have heard the 6850 is better than the 6870 cause thier is only a 7% performance deference between then, except one is like $30-$50 cheaper. Plus the 6850 has more headroom for overclocking (200 MHz vs 100 MHz)

Anyone have experience with HP Pavilion laptops? I am looking at getting a DV6, and want to make sure there arent any known issues. Seems like 90% of the complaints I read on open review boards are people that have never used a computer before...

I have one, and I've repaired tons of them. They've gotten better in the last 2 years. I still don't like the Beats BS that's loaded into some of them though.

I like Corsair for PSU but thats personal preference.

Also, I would suggest this GPU.  http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121418

Also, have you checked to make sure your water cooling with work with your case? If not I wouldn't order it yet.

Hmmm... What were the problems two years ago? I am looking at a used one right now, and I am unsure of how old it is. Not too old, and she claims to have bought it a year ago, but you never know. It is an HP Pavilion dv6-3259wm.

Thanks!

I would suggest not to get the OCZ psu, and get this one
http://us.ncix.com/p...manufacture=XFX
It's modular, XFX (a "brand" company unlike OCZ) and its 80 plus silver, so it will be more efficient.
For a GPU I would get
http://us.ncix.com/p...manufacture=XFX
if you have multiple monitors.
If you don't, I would get this
http://us.ncix.com/p...manufacture=XFX
And of money is no object
http://us.ncix.com/p...manufacture=XFX

As you can see, I'm recommending XFX products cause they come with killer warrantys, are great priced, and last.

EDIT: where is the hard drive? Hello? :P

Just to note, OCZ is a brand name. A really big name, actually. I have had horrible experience with their RAM, though

They used to use some really cheap plastics. Outside of that, I really can't complain about HP's laptops performance wise.

Ok, good, since I have now paid for it, lol. Nothing amazing, but good enough for what I need it for at college. And for 300 bucks, it isnt a HUGE deal if it is disappointing.

The bag is hideous, and I told her that she could just keep it, lol.
