I was working security at an event yesterday that was sponsored by a company that sells coconut water, and i was told multiple times throughout the day that it hydrates you faster than just water. Anyone know anything about this stuff?

Well of course they'd tell you that, they're trying to make money by selling it. People will tell you anything if they think it will make you buy their product. Just look at gatorade, and how they tell you it's so much better than water. But what they don't tell you about is the crap load of sugar they pour into it to make it taste better.

IF it is pure coconut water, than it should not contain any added sugar and additives that Gatorade contains. And I think the event staff must have misspoke, as it will not hydrate you faster than water (absorbed same rate), however it will hydrate you better. The only reason for this is the electrolytes it naturally contains and is able to replenish for the body when it loses via sweating. It is not the ideal hydrating solution, but it has actually been used as an IV for fluid replacement. Sometimes people confuse coconut milk and water, however coconut water is actually very good at hydration, if you can afford the typical heavy price tag.

If you drink it excessively you're going to shit yourself. Natural laxative. So in essence it puts you back at square one.

i was asking to see if it could replace the Gatorade i drink. i know nothing can replace water. In a day of play i usually drink close to a gallon of water and half a bottle of Gatorade. is it worth replacing the Gatorade with coconut water? Price doesn't matter cause i can get both for free.

If you like the taste of the coconut water(some people say it tastes like sweet butter  ),then I would recomend it,mostly because it is healthier than gatorade. And not to repeat others or piss you off,but drink water aswell as coconut water.
