I only got 10 bucks right now and I can start saving up. My parents aren't gonna buy me anything so I have to do some work. I'm just wondering what's a good mask under 40. I see some Proflexs on ebay for under 40, some vforces and some dye mask. Just wondering what is the top of the line mask I can get for 40 bucks. I won't mind used. Just something that won't fog and I can breath.

I personally would never buy a used mask.

For one thing, I know how sweat-soaked the foam is after a day of play. I personally wouldn't want to be sticking a strangers sweat sponge on my face for hours on end.

Also, you have no idea how old the lens is, or in what shape it's in. For all you know, it's a 5 year old lens that's taken 100's of hits and is on the verge of disintegration. Not only is this dangerous, it means you're gonna be paying another $30 for a new lens.

I get that money isn't the easiest thing to come by, but paintball is an expensive sport, and while there are many ways of cutting back expenses, your mask it NOT something you want to skimp out on.

^ this and get the V Force Pro Vantages I just picked up mine yesterday and the foam is great, strap has a silicone pattern for more grip on your head, great ear protection, great venting, flexible sides for moving up against your stock or whatever addition you have on the back of your gun(I personally don't have one I find they make me too clumsy), great field of view, great mouth protection, that's all I can think of right now, all in all though they are probs the best $40 you can spend on a mask. I haven't had any issues with fogging but if you blow directly on the lens it WILL fog up. I'll test them out and come back in a few minutes. But if you prefer a thermal lens then you can pick one up on Ansgear for $10 or you can go and get a Dual Pane one for $20.

Edit: After further testing of my Vantages there are NO signs of fogging only when I blew directly on the lens. That will never happen though because the foam blocks a lot of the air from going up to the lens.

Very true, I would spend at least 60 on a mask, buy a high end mask.

I show up at a field that I never been to before for some rec-play wearing cargo pants with a t-shirt....carrying a old mech Spyder and two pringle potato chip cans for pods shoved in the pants pockets. The stares are priceless and after the first game or so you get to see the grins from the ref and players who know....priceless.

Proto switch EL. Never fogs, very comfortable and it isn't a thermal lense but it does have the coating on it that will last forever! only $30 and I don't plan on changing mask anytime soon!

I would not personally buy a used mask unless you can switch out the foam... too me it seems nasty to wear it since it's someone elses sweat...

First off don't buy a used mask especially when you can buy a mask like a Vforce provantages for 42.95 brand new at ans gear. Next off if your younger or have a smaller face i do not recommend the Proflex because of the foam ears, soft rubber, hard to remove lens and larger in size mask. Proflex is a great mask for people with larger faces and not worried about taking hits cause of the lack of protection. Hope this helps

I personally like the GI Milsim mask. yet to have a fogging problem, feels great, good field of vision... for 40 bucks it's perfect. has a profile similar to the dye masks

I got the proflex, it came in today. Fits good, very comfy, easy to breath, and doesn't fog! I bought it "used" but it was only used twice. only paid 30 dollars for it, which isn't terrible at all. Thamks to everyone that told me to buy the proflex, i am very happy with this mask.

Make sure you check out the Sly Annex
34.95 with a thermal lens and i think it is a nicer mask then the pro vantage.

I would definitely check out the Empire Vidar with thermal lenses. They're only 50 dollars and make a great starter mask. I've heard that the foam is not great, but you might be able to put some event's foam into it (It's only 8 dollars and includes an adhesive.)

First, go to a pro shop near you and try on the masks that you are interested in because some may be more comfortable than others.

Also, don't be afraid of spending to much money on a mask.

Your mask is your most important piece of equipment!

You can look at it all you want on way your back to the staging area after getting hit by a wall of paint from my Victory =)
