Ion Xe off of Ebay for $62, 22" sniper barrel included (advertised as a feature)!

It was fully working when I got it.

My Ion is so bipolar.

Saturday night it didn't leak. Sunday afternoon it did.

It makes me sad.

Wookie, the macroless mod is sweet, nice that you had another frame!

I got out Sunday and I wasn't disappointed, it shoots great. Plenty fast enough for woodsball. Only issue I had was the super duper cheap macroline I got from ANS gear, popped both pieces I had, thankfully another player hooked me up with some good thick macro and the rest of the day was flawless.

Mine can't shoot more than 5-6 bps without a huge velocity drop off. Is that just the valve being unable to handle it?

Do you have a QEV? Without a QEV it just has such a high cycle time that it could be the problem. Also, it may be time to service the reg.

Is there a dark side for people who got rid of theirs?

No, you just turn into a furry little Ewok.

I was seeing the same thing this weekend, and I was hitting 3-4 bps. 280, 250, 220, 195, 195

I tested it several times, different barrels on, etc, same result.

I have the QEV, so I guess I will try to service the reg.

The stock Ion reg needs a deep socket wrench too (I forget the size), so it can be a hassle to deal with. I'd also check to make sure there aren't any kinks or blockages of any kind in the hose, just to be safe.

of course it uses a special socket. I will double check for kinks, but I can't imagine something got kinked sitting in my bag for the past few weeks.

Played a bit with the mech Ion today. Worked like a charm, though one of the grip screws managed to disappear, so the grips felt loose which was annoying.

Personally I stay away from Hater Sauce, there is no reason to for that much dye in lube. Otherwise, any dow 33 is pretty good. I use PE grease, but hater marmalade, gog greese, and sl33k are all good options.

I used to use Hater sauce with great effect in my G3. I got some Lurker Lube a while back, and I've been using it ever since. There's nothing specifically wrong with Hater sauce, I just like using a lube that doesn't turn everything green.

Just got back from the field. The mech ion worked great overall, really smooth and quiet. I ran it without the grips on and the people who noticed that there was no board were quite shocked and gave me a funny look. At the beginning of the day, it had some crazy bolt stick, kind of expected that considering it was only 30* out. So I cleaned out all the older grease and re-greased the whole thing, put a few drops of oil in the asa to oil up the smav-3 and it worked great the rest of the day. This project was well worth it.

You can technically do it with any Ion bolt, however if it does not have a way of shutting off your dump chamber, you will have terrible efficiency and poor velocity control.

Length?
Probably just longer than the distance the bolt travels, so at least .7" + whatever compressed length there is, but not much longer. We want the bolt under constant pressure from the spring, but not so much pressure that it's still mostly compressed even when the bolt is fully forwards.

Compressed length?
A quick measurement shows we have about 0.35" to work with when the bolt is fully back, so it'll be going from about .35" to about 1", which means our spring needs to be at least 1" long. It will probably be better to get a minimum amount of coils so there's no risk of binding.

Maximum load lbs?
I have no idea.

One has a 2.35 lb load rating, and the other has a 3.75 lb load rating. I have absolutely no idea what that means in practical terms, so I guess we'll find out.

I haven't had a chance to really let 'er rip yet, I dunno about the shootdown. The shootdown with the Tickler was more of a flow rate thing than anything to do with the bolt, however once I get it on a chrono, if in fact it has kicked up the FPS a bit, that lower pressure I can turn it down to may help in that aspect.
