Could you put more porting on a barrel by drilling it with a drill press?

it could work but watch for inside the barrel because the drill may not leave the hole flush to the rest of the barrell

you could, i wouldn't though. you get metal burrs inside the barrel which can wreck it and the paint.

Look into DIY EDM machines... that would probably be the best route to go.

gonna leave burs on the inside of the bore unless you are very very careful.
The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

I have done it with a $5 shit barrel. Worked ok, I was able to knock off all the burs and sand it down by wrapping a swab with some 1000 grit wet dy sandpaper. I dont recommend it though took a long while.

I never get wipers, blood is hard to wipe off.

Now that I think about it, if you could find steel or wood round stock that fits snug in the barrel. You could drill it and the round stock should prevent tear out.

Use a pilot point drill bit to minimize the burrs. You can't resharpen them though. Also, make sure the barrel is held imobile in the drill press

I did both of my CP barrels a few weeks ago. I took two 16" barrels and cut about 2" off the (ugly) tip and then enlarged the remaining holes from 1/16" to 1/8" and did a couple of 1/4" holes as well. I took off the burr with a small diamond bit on a dremel tool (a 1/8" hole is big enough to get a small bit in at a 45 degree angle and hit the inside corners). I didn't see any noticeable effect on accuracy, but they are louder now (which makes sense). The first barrel I did a few years ago was an un-ported one piece, I put eight 1/8" ports 2" back from the tip. That made a huge difference. I get the feeling that whether or not your porting is super smooth or even doesn't actually make a big difference overall. After looking at Freak barrel porting close up I'm pretty sure there's no good reason to keep all the holes so tiny (other than avoiding patent infringements if you're a manufacturer). It's still tempting to try slotting a few barrels too.

IIRC, smart parts has a patent on barrels that have a total porting area that is greater then the area of any plane perpendicular to the barrel inside said barrel.

So, if the inside diameter is 1 inch, then the area of the inside of the cylinder could be calculated as

Area = 2πR^2 where R=.5 (radius is half the diameter). So the area is 0.78in^2, and the area of the porting cannot exceed that.

It's a pretty crappy patent, imo.

Assuming you're an average joe like the rest of us, I suppose you could do whatever you wanted as long as it was within 5" or so of the muzzle and you sanded the crap out of the inside until you start "boring" at around .7 around your modified porting. I haven't exactly tried this, but I imagine as long as you sanded it with a gradually finer grit it wouldn't put any weird spins or otherwise influence the paint

big porting will let paint and water easilier in to the barrel.

like if you rubb you barrel tipp against a bunker.
