Just curious to see who has tried P90x. I recently canceled my gym membership, was getting a little to pricey. My friend at work mentioned P90x, from what i've heard, it looks like it works great.

I would just form my own work out rather than spend money on something that shows up on TV at 3 in the morning.

yeah i know infomercial workouts are cheezy but this one actually is great.
yes you could just make your own routine, but the video works better for me cuz it keeps me accountable regarding reps, rest times, and other stuff.

OP, the p90x workouts are awesome. bout a hour a day. no matter your fitness level you WILL gain something and it will challenge you. im almost half way thru and im seeing improvements in upper body strength, and also my flexibility (which is great for paintball)
I recommend p90x for sure.

I'm actually going to give this a try

I really like how they lay out everything for you, it's not just the old "put in a VCR tape and go excersise"

They make you note EVERYTHING, from exactly what you eat each day, to your reps, weight, etc

It's a brutal comprehensive plan from start to finish, which is why I really like it

I'm going to try it, I should be getting started on it in about another week or so

I want to run it for 150 days (2 months past the 90 days for better results) and I'll let everyone know how it works out

ymca? My membership with Anytime Fitness was $40 a month. The p90x package is $120 for 3 months worth of dvd's. But I did take a look on ebay and you can find it for a little bit cheaper

You guys should visit www.crossfit.com They post up a workout everyday and it's intense workouts. By far the best workout I've ever done and my strength has gone up tremendously over the past 2 months I've been doing this routine.

I actually have it :D

It is pretty hard, especially in areas you wouldn't be at your greatest.

Only problem is, keeping determined, I constantly start and stop :(

You might feel awkward using a workout video, but its more than just that so thats why I bought it.

the biggest thing with P90X is the nutrition plan

90% of being your weight is what you eat, not how much you exercise

I know tons of thin people who don't exercise, but they don't eat much either

Simple math-

3500 calories = 1 pound of fat

If your body need 2000 calories to maintain your weight, and you eat 1500 a day, you'll lose a pound a week

If your body needs 2000 calories to maintain your weight, and you eat 2500 calories a day, you'll gain a pound a week

He's right. I started back in January, quit eating junk food, no pop, LOTS of water, pretty much at all natural foods, 5-6 meals a day, with occasional exercise and to this date I have lost 25lbs. Started at 205, now I weigh 180.

Well yeah that is something they tell you to watch for in the P90X plan.

Increasing your metabolism is something they dont really talk about though. You know those people who can eat table's worth of food and not gain an ounce, well thats high metabolism at work. If you can increase your metabolism along with eating better you'll get much better results out your exercise is what I've been told.

A guy I use to work with does p90x and he went from being a muscular guy to just being totally ripped in about 6 months with it. He worked off all the extra and won the prisons biggest loser contest hands down. Of course the next year he came in dead last because he didn't have anything left to drop.

it works the other way too... ive never been over 135 since high school. after p90x i went from 18% to 9% body fat AND gained an additional 15 pounds (to 150).

good luck mike, dont give up regardless of how much tony and dreya (sp?) annoy you. hopefully you bought the real versions so you can just mute them

That's actually mostly bullshit. Your metabolism is mostly a hereditary/age related trait. Exercising does burn more calories, but it's effect on your metabolism isn't what some advertisers would like you to believe.

Meh, Im not talking about what companies put out there I couldn't give a shit less, I've heard it from more individuals involved in weight training/physical activity and from sources not selling products only sharing their experiences, also I wasnt talking about exercising to increase metabolism I was talking about eating. Any reason why you think its bullshit? Aside from the heredity issue, which in itself cant solely dominate.

i really badly want to try this, but does anyone know if there is risk of adverse health effects on minors, i'm only 16 so not fully developed physically so something like this although making me ripped and the envy of ever other 16 year old guy at my school... could cause problems.

you will need more than one set of dumbbells to get the full benefits of the program though. im doing it right now and some workouts a single set is fine, other ones it's either too much weight or too little. go to bodylastics.com, they have fantastic resistance band sets for as low as $50. it's a great alternative to weights pricewise and they even have benefits that regular weights dont have. also, don't buy the program from the beachbody website or the tv offer...go to craiglist, i got mine for $40. the dvds were brand new in the package, the only difference from the full priced ones is the ones from craiglist might not come with the nutrition guides and the workout guides. no big deal though, just go to beachbody.com and burn them on to a blank cd.

not only that but unless you become a gym rat and work out on your own all the time the marines will never get you as ripped as p90x will get you. i am a former marine and im doing p90x right now and im seeing muscular development in just 3 weeks that i never saw with 6+ months of being a gym rat on top of whatever the marines had you do for exercise. usually running lol
