you haven't seen aluminum boats until you go to a village. Those guys build their own, and take them in some conditions that would be iffy on a boston whaler.

I've fished with gummy bears and marshmallows before. Some fish will hit anything

I once used some grass on a fly hook that was missing the hair, caught a red with it.

trying to find some time to go out and get some grouse, but it has been raining too much.

Moose season opened, but I'm not much for the large game hunts.

45-70 is a bit overkill. Most people use a 300 win mag at the largest, most common is 30-06 or a 308

I would love to go big game hunting sometime. Either deer or moose would be the best.

Not an official member of the club but I thought I'd post after the day I had.

Got all my duck decoys updated to keel grabber weight sets today.  I just got back into duck hunting last year after college ended.  I used to do it when I was little with my dad in MN but South Dakota hunting is too phenomenal to quit.  I prefer hunting water but fields with layouts are fun as well.  Buying a new Jon boat this week as well!  Tomorrow I'm heading out for some scouting with a coworker so hopefully I can get some nice pictures of some ducks.

Current decoys I own:

1 dozen GHG Full Bodies

Half Dozen GHG Shells

1 Dozen Goose Shells

1 Dozen GHG Floaters

1 Dozen Tanglefree Floateres

2 Butt Up Floaters

2 60/40 Keel Feeder Mallards

I hunt Whitetail and Mule deer both East and West river in SD, Whitetail in MN on my parent's family farm. Here's a pic of myself and my pops during my fat years at college.  This was the largest buck we got the first year of buying back the old family land from our neighbors in MN.

148178_635848512659_3076523_n.jpg55045_635848632419_3174277_o.jpg

Currently have licenses for two deer West River in SD for the year.  One any species Buck and one any species Doe tags.  Should be interesting!  Last year my coworker and I had some incredible luck out west and I saw some of the biggest deer of my life.  Only had doe tags though :(.  This year will also be the first year using my new X-bolt 7mm Rem Mag.  Sighted it in at a dime at 100 yds using some Winchester ammo.

those are some nice deer

I'd love to go down towards sitka or kodiak and get some deer. I'd rather go deer hunting than moose hunting, easier to pack out, and the meat tastes better.

Went out scouting tonight to check all the land I hunt for ducks.  It's all public so first come first serve.  Found out the widgeon are already moving south with the cold weather we've been having at night.  Found a flock of a couple hundred birds, pretty huge for this early in the year.  Lots of teal and mallards getting their wings as well. Not smart or fast flyers by any means but it's nice to see considering the season is only two weeks away.

Also saw a dozen deer.  Mostly does and fawns but a couple small bucks as well.  You can tell they are starting to move now that the weather is cooling down and the rut is about to hit.  Unfortunately I won't get to check my deer land until closer to season since its a couple hours away.

Waterfowl opener this weekend!  I've been waiting for this since the 4th of July.  Scouted 500 miles this weekend and saw thousands of ducks and geese.  Hopefully I'll have some nice pics for you guys from Saturday and Sunday.

Sure, that'd be cool.

Here's a pic of my opener haul of ducks.  We had 3 guys in central South Dakota.  Kind of nice to see some pintails so early in the year, especially in SD.

954685_10100286299849939_685205217_n.jpg

Second day we got 8 out of 24 but no picture.

Then last saturday I got this little flock.  Had some widgeon in there but no real color to em.  I was hoping for a nice drake to stuff but theres a lot of season left!  Sunday I also got 8 of 32 but no pics.

1382843_10100291532842979_1869538248_n.j

Then this morning I went solo and saw a bunch of migratory birds coming from ND.  Pretty excited about this.  Teal are moving out and larger spoonbills, mallards, pintails, and widgeon are moving in!  If the greener drake would have had curls I would have stuffed him along side the hen.  Both were beautiful birds just not quite mature enough.  I know hens are in general a no-no, she was a casualty on the same shot as the drake.  One pellet to head knocked her out unfortunately.  :(

That blind view looks like heaven!  All I get to look at is a slough on a prairie.  Next year I'm going field hunting most of the year.  Picked up some private land permission this year and already got it confirmed again for next year as well.  Pretty excited abotu that considering most land for hunting is leased around me.

Got a tiny little buck back in MN deer hunting two weeks ago.  Not even worthy of pictures but it will give some good meat to the family.  Now I have another month to fill my 2 tags here in SD.  Hopefullyl I can pick up a nicer buck out here.
