I'm just curious to know the difference between a smart parts shocker and a smart parts ion? Which one is better?

An Ion is a matrix based blow forward spool, aimed at the low end market, as a starter gun.

Spoiler

A shocker is a balanced spool, that was aimed at the higher end crowd.

Spoiler

Between the two, I believe the shocker is definitely better. Kinda like comparing a DM to a Proto, in that one is/was high end, and the other is/was low end.

The bolt systems are actually quite different. Here's some animations to show you the difference:

The Ion is a blow-forward spool, meaning that the gas that moves the bolt back and forth is also the gas that fires the gun. In its stock configuration, the Ion is the more efficient of the two.

Spoiler

The Shocker is what's called a balanced spool, meaning that the air that fires the gun does not come from the same chamber as the air that operates the bolt. A stock shocker is more quiet and smoother of the two, but less efficient*

Spoiler

Now, if you had a Shocker with the Lurker Eigenbolt that was tuned properly, it would be more efficient than the Ion, or most other spools for that matter. (1500-2000 shots per 68/45, and yes, there's proof)

Edit: damn you, wookie!

Using a gun that's been hardly maintained and tossed from person to person more than a village whore is hardly a fair way to compare the marker.

Do you know what upgrades the Shocker has, if any?

I'm not sure, he told me but I forgot. It's the pro shop I go to and it's where I got my Marq6 and my intimidator from.

it doesn't have the boomstick barrel, but, it does have a freak barrel and I'm not sure if it's the whole kit or not.

Oh, right. I remember from chat. Well, DM6 or Shocker, both are awesome guns.

I'm not sure about getting the DM6, I have a bid in for $167.50 but he has a reserve on it and he says that it can be bought for $300.

well, I wouldn't feel too bad about losing the DM. Throw a Lurker bolt and Tadao board (assuming you don't have a good board) in that Shocker and it'll hang with any new electros.
