For the love of god! Why are there multiple flavors of vienna sausages? I went to wally world to pick up a few things and noticed there was a barbecue, hot sauce, honey mustard and cajun flavord vienna sausages. Who eats these things? And why? Its just a pointless product that doesn't deserve multiple angles to encourage people to consume them. Damn.

Are you against different flavors of just Vienna Sausages, or multiple flavors of everything in general? What is someone doesn't like the basic flavor?

I just don't see the point of taking something so generic and masking it with multiple flavors. I dig other things as such, just why a vienna sausage? Does their marketing rep go up to each homeless person within a 50 mile radius and say "what would make this 2" sausage better?" I can't see the reply being "honey mustard." Mmmmm, mmmmmm...... Imo, no matter how much you polish a tird, is it still not a tird?

Yes, but I'd rather have a quality "tird" than a crappy tird. :D

after much thought i felt the only way to give an honest opinion on the topic was to try them... so heres my take.
I purchased 4 different types of vienna sausages and a box of saltines (per the guy with a wad of dip in his mouth saying it was a necessity)

1st was the hot sauce, (dip guy said these were his favorites)
result, a slightly salty taste generic hotsauce not horrible but def interesting.. wouldn't buy again.

2nd was the original
result, i had forgotten they had some sort of slime on them, not sure what it was but very unappealing, just had a mushy bland flavor.. wouldn't buy again

3rd was the barbecue
result, i couldn't believe that i actually didn't mind the taste.. sorta like a hotdog with a touch of hickory smoked goodness.. who woulda thought?

4th and final was the honey mustard
result, at this point i was getting rather full and a lil sick of vienna sausages but for the sake of those willing to read this i felt i must go on, it was the worst of them all, very bitter and rather sour.. def wouldn't buy again...

stay tuned, next week im trying the several types of spam!!!

well if you're going to be eating them anyway, you HAVE to at least try the BACON spam, or you can no longer say that you are a man !!

i wouldn't be too anxious about the hawaiian spam ... prolly just threw some imitation pineapple in there

and the stinky french .... will probably give you hot flashes and put you in touch with your feelings

aww fuck ... MRE's ... "meals rejected by the enemy", or "meals rejected by everyone" ... they're like cockroaches, one of the only things that'll survive an apocalypse ... if you can't heat em up, then try to trade with someone who has a "frank and beans" MRE ... otherwise you'll puke it up, and even that will taste better than your original MRE.

Nothing tastes remotely close to a vienna sausage...They're the polar opposite of generic!

I did in fact consume several varieties of viennas to give an honest and worthy opinion, after such time I felt it was my duty as an American to admit when I was wrong. I retract my entirely negative outburst and solely focus on the flavors that just didn't do it for me. I can't say ill be toting a can with me on my next local outing but maybe sometime soon.

cheese spread with bacon and cheese spread with jalapenos isnt bad...

the best MRE's ilve had, and yes, i am pretty sure ive had jsut about every MRE offered to the US Military...

Buffalo Chicken
Southwest Steak and Beans
Chili Mac
Spicey Pene Pasta
Cheese Tortalini
Tuna (its starkist tuna, and its damn good)

most o fhte beer w/vegies, beer w/mushrooms beef post roast, are pretty good, but i find it to be hit or miss depending on the manufacture date of the MRE...

the pork rib is gross

cheese and veggie omlette itself is gross, but the extras that come with it are good

chicken and dumplngs is up there, and is on of the only chicken meals i like....

i rarely ate my MREs warm, usually didnt have time to heat them up, or didnt feel like using the warmer to do so... what we used to do in afghainstan, depending if we were stationary or mobile, would would put our MREs under the hoods of our trucks and let the engine heat them up... otherwise, while on mission... it was cold MREs, adn for those of us who got care packages, cold chef boy-are-dee and the like... really not that bad as long as you have some hot sauce to go with it...

as for spam... here is my favorite way to cook it... clean off the slime, then slice the spam into 1/4 inch think pieces, or smaller if you so desire... in a pan, melt butter worcestershire sauce andsome grill mates steak rub seasoning... ass what ever spices you like, like minced garlic and hot sauce... once you have the "sauce" mixed up (sometimes i had a bit of olive oil or vinegar to give it some body), turn the heat up on high and pan fry the spam in the sauce... the sauce may burn a bit, but when you are done, you can actually make a good dipping sauce out of it using what ever medium you want, i prefer wine as the base, but i have used chicken gravy or chicken stock before... i tend to serve over rice, but its damn good....

also, jsut spam pan fried in butter is delish...

i've done quite a bit of camping in my life, and spam is a staple camp food... so, in knowing this, i tried to come up with ways to make spam taste better by experimenting with it at home... i've done grilled spam with bbq, asian, and steak seasoning... i've done scrambled eggs with spam and bacon... grilled spam sandwhiches... spam and lental soup... spam, rice and beans... i've always wants to do a spam based chili....
