No, there are players that have never owned one...

"back in the day" this would of been strange, but now... No it's not strange at all.

Nope, although a lot of players start with them. How did you like the TPX?

Depends on your area, where I'm from it was mostly outlaw ball for the longest time. so you picked up a Tippmann because it was all you could get at the store.
If I didn't buy so many guns for the sole purpose of fondling them i'd be a very rich man.

JT Tac-5M Recon ftw!
Best gun JT has come out with prior to the Impulse. The damn thing had like a centimeter or two of solid aluminum.
But no, I don't consider me ever having a Tippmann. I got a 98 custom for like 20 bucks from this field that didn't want it or something, new, sealed in box, and it's only been a loaner for the person I most dislike when I bring them out to the field. The only reason why I absolutely adore it is because the feedneck comes off so cleanly, so I can musket ball it up with a friend by giving him the Tippmann while I use my JT Tac-5M Recon Master Race Sniper. The only annoying part is that with the Tippmann, you have to load it funny: twist right hand inwards, load ball.
or:
Hold the heavy thing from the grip with your left hand, load ball in.

But I only owned one as a loaner. I'm a sucker for free guns.

I still want to do this for the sake of having a macroless E-Mag
And then I can also make a super tacticool marker.

Regardless of how much I hate bringing real guns into paintball, but I want to make an X7 like an AK-47, so I can say that this Tippmann is the AK-47 of paintball.

But I love my Tippmanns. Specially my Carbine and SL-68II.

I think the Pro/Carbine is THEE poster Child marker for paintball... Every time you see someone think of paintball they imagine an image of something that is VERY similar to the Pro/Carbine. King of The hill's episode on paintball had all the kids using Pro/Carbines. I've seen bumper stickers that have something to do with paintball and the guy was Holding a Pro/Carbine... They are the Iconic image that most non-paintballers think of without knowing anything about the sport.

I was a spyder newb who moved to tippmanns who then got into electros. Eventually.

I wouldn't mind owning a TPX, Phenom, or crossover someday. I just don't have a need for them yet. If I could get them for a steal I might, but I have what I "need" for now.

I've seen a lot of cyclone ratchets go down though, requiring replacement to get back operational. And it's not THAT simple a design when you have to take it all apart because of that. No batteries is nice and all, but I'd rather have something that works without parts breaking down on me. I have yet to have my Rotor or even my older Reloader B break down on me.

Also it kind of makes a big profile on the one side of your gun, though I haven't had too much issue with them in the profile aspect except for airball fields.

The cyclone is a trade off, like many other hoppers. Pros and cons to it.

Would I use one? Maybe for a mech gun/rec woods gun if I wanted to get a Phenom someday.

Is it amazing? Not at all.

when i started paintball i was thinking of getting a spyder victor for like $70 or something, instead i went for an a5 for $200. Now i regret it and wished i would have wasted $70, not $200.

Actually the only tippman i would want to own would be a tpx, or actually, 2.

my next marker purchase will 99% most likely be a Crossover.

I grew up with Tippmann, I loved tinkering with Tippmann markers, I have a ... "friend" in Tippmann and can not for the life of me ever call one of my purchases with Tippmann a "mistake" ever. They are rock solid guns built for players that need a VERY Durable gun... one that wont shoot 15bps with ease, but one that can last a 3-day scenario match and enjoy the Dirt and grim that absorb in the heat of the moment. People who "hate" Tippmanns also never played a VERY VERY Long dirty scenario, where firepower just did not matter and eventually the team with the most guns working in the end won.

Really? Because my mechanical ion, extcy, and friends axe, as well my friend who was using a g1, worked last year at living legends just fine.

Desert balling then. This is about as dusty and dirty as you can get. Closed body's work wonders here. Player a decently long scenario with the dust devils for about a day. Enmey held up fine. As with my extcy.

Yeah, the OLD clear white ratchets were known for breaking in the cold, but it was a simple fix. They stopped shipping guns with those old ones years ago.

The new black ratchets are solid, I haven't seen anyone break one of those (or even wear one out)...

I have literally worn a techt metal ratchet down to dust, but since the new black plastic ones from Tippmann came out, they fixed that old issue. I run a new style cyclone (off the new style A-5) on my old factory realtree A-5. I haven't broken a ball in my cyclone, or had it malfunction at all since I put it on. I can also run my A-5 completely out of air and it will still cycle the cyclone to the last shot. The older ones weren't like that, as the cyclone would stop once the air pressure got too low.

I just hate dealing with batteries, or having to remember to turn on my hopper, or e-grip. I prefer just picking it up and it working, which is why I own so many Tippmanns.

If they really fixed that issue, I may reconsider the phenom some day for a rec woods gun.

I had an X7 (standard) I won as a door prize. I had to replace the ratchet three times in less than a calendar year, and it only got used twice. That gun quickly got sold off to someone else as their problem.

I liked the look and feel of it for rec woodsball when I was done with it. I just hated hated hated the fact I couldn't count on it for anything, which is why I got rid of it.

Yeah, ask around, as that isn't a problem anymore. and fyi, if you do have one of the old milky white ratchets in an old A-5 or X-7 laying around, call Tippmann and they will send you the new black ratchet for FREE!

Tippmann customer service is amazing.

I don't know about the phenom personally, as I haven't used one.
