I don't quite understand all the hate with the DP markers (G3 & G4). I own a G4. I love that thing, and it did have problems out of the box. I know a non-functioning gun out of box is a no-no but it was a quick fix, new orings and some monkey poo. However I look around the forum and see all sorts of hate towards the marker, is it justified? I know some people will say they hate DP and have never owned one. Is it just a bandwagon type thing to pick on DP? Has anyone really given it a solid chance? The G3/4 aren't $1000 markers by any means, Mine has seen 60+ cases with only a value seat replacement and a few orings here and there. Pretty good for a rec-baller in my eyes. I also own the Mini, which is constantly being compared to DP. in my opinion it isn't that great. I just find it kinda small and "goofy" The G4 is a very solid marker in my eyes, for $300. Maybe its just unconditional love? it was the first gun I owned and the gun I bought with my own money. It would be like have a mentally or physically impaired child. Don't give up on him! Build him up and does anyone feel my pain the DP is underrated or am I ignorant?

I'd say a good 75% is just bandwagon.

I for one, do not HATE DP, their customer service is hit or miss... and after the G3 Line I have not tried one of their G4's or G5's. But I have shot a Rev-i, a threshold, a G3, F8, and the E1 and I cannot say that I "hate" them, but I do not LIKE them. I'm neutral with them... Though the E1 for the price is a bad ass little shooter.

They are selling you something that is NEW , you shouldn't have to do ANYTHING to it even if it is an easy fix. Imagine buying a new car but having to repair the tires and brakes before you can drive it. Imagine buying a new BBQ and having to replace the burners before you can use it . In those situations people would be up in arms...

I owned an E1 , too be honest, it shot well with a simplistic design which in this case is kind of a plus but it was an absolute air hog and it needed like 10lbs of lube. The G4 or even the G5 now are way overpriced , in the ~300$ marker market there are much better options IMO.

Business is about reputation , especially in a small niche like paintball . The worst thing you can do is sell things that are broken/non-functional when new to your customers , some companies won't even consider their products in comparison videos despite selling them. I do agree that some DP hate is bandwagon but it is warranted.

I won't buy a g4 just because I don't want to put work into a brand new gun. I would on the other hand buy a g5 without worries. Its worth the price you get more features then any other NEW gun at that price point and it all aluminum.

IMO it is a bandwagon, But DP is responsible for getting it rolling by selling guns that didn't work right out of the box.

Edited by Billy Badass-RPF, 24 April 2013 - 12:42 AM.

If I didn't buy so many guns for the sole purpose of fondling them i'd be a very rich man.

I hate DP. Why? The guns I had from them were shit, the guns my friends had from them were shit. The customer service is shit.

So yes, I won't touch anything that has DP on it.

So, by not working out of box, everybody means that it just needs some new fittings and relubed. Let's look at 2 other markets more expensive shall we? The Vapor, one of the most expensive markers in paintball had bolt stick out of box, and were sold with bad parts. The Empire Sniper is sold with leaky fittings. Almost every owner of an Empire Sniper in my area has had to replace their fittings or deal with a leak.

i was almost sold on a g4 and liked the way it felt, shot etc, then the owner told me about the issues he had and the frustration it caused. im also a very firm beliver of u should get what u pay for, the resale value of a g4 is horrible, u pay roughly 280.00 for the marker and use it a few times only to sell it for maybe 150.00. not a worthy investment imo.

it's mostly people who just parrot what they hear someone else say. My brother has a g4 and my friend has an FX, they have both had a total of zero issues.
If you treat your gun like shit that's how it will treat you. Most of the "issues" are from people who lube their gun every 6 months and expect it to work.

In my experience I have never owned a gun that was exactly like the reviews said it would be, you have to shoot one for yourself and make your own opinions, because everybody has a bias.
best example I have is the old timmy I used to own; it was cheap and people praised it saying "an old highend is still miles better than a spyder". Absolute BS, that thing had 10x the issues of my spyder. Replaced 3/4 of all the parts and still couldn't get it to stop chopping.
Another good one is the ion platform, when I started people told me to get a spyder over an ion, years later now that I have an ion I realize it's actually not that bad, and for a starter gun it's amazing. But talk to the wrong person and they will tell you that it might as well be the spawn of satan himself.
it's all very subjective, you have to form your own opinions on markers.

I've seen so many DP guns break that its just ridiculous.
Probably a dozen G4's
At least 3 FX's
and a couple of E1's.
They offer almost nothing in comparison to other guns of the same price.
The Valken Proton MURDERS the G5 in every way possible and the Etek, Invasion and used Vices and Egos are better by far in comparison to the FX.

I would never suggest anybody gets a DP anything for any reason (besides the REV-I those things are cool)

For me, it's not even the out of the box issues that bother me. Its just inconsistancy of the quality of the markers, and how the drive engine of the g4 and e1 are just silly bad. Spool valve thats loud, kicky, AND innefficient? The shot quality is just bad and not worth the money.

Had no issues with my E1 really. For the $200 price bracket I still think its one of the better offerings for a start up semi auto electro.

It's $189 add in another $30 for a feed neck (witch DP offeres free with the purchase of a new one now) and that's it. It has a good 3 way adjustable trigger, Eyes, and a good easy maintenance regulator. It's also entirely constructed of aluminium and has an on/off ASA. ALL of those things it's nearest competition lack. It is also cocker threaded so there are more readily available options for barrels then some.

It's not the greatest gun ever made BUT. It has worked for me for two years no probs. Can sling ungodly amounts of paint if I wish and is got to be one of the easiest electros to maintain EVER. It's small light and the durable finish looks pretty good.

I got mine with a old 14" Proto barrel I had laying around and DP clamping feed neck and could not be happier with the way it performs for me.

As for DP customer service well i can't really comment on that as never have had need yet to contact them for any reason.

But of course! Good to see you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.
Since you probably wouldn't be able to comprehend the technicaleties, let's start hwith the simplest difference.

Geo = Reliable and built with quality.

And trust me when I say I have used more of them for a long time.

Lol, no. There is MUCH more differen between them than the board, frame, reg, etc. Do you see a spring-loaded propshaft (or a propshaft at all) on a G-series marker? Didnt think so.

I didnt like the Geo 2.1 that I had, I just wanted to try it out and compare it with my SpecR.
But i got annoyed by the constant puff of air from the upper inline reg when firing.
And ill give it to PE, reliability and CS is over the top with them.
Then again, I only contacted CS for any of my guns if i was in need of hard to find marker parts.
I kept my Spec R and traded the Geo for a VX
