So today I was talking to someone about football players. I said a name that the other person didn't know. I explained who the person was and said he was really famous. The guy I was talking to then said " Well if he's so famous , how come I've never heard of him?" or something along those lines.

It really irks me when people say that and I've heard a few people say it. They seem to think that the world revolves around them and that just because THEY haven't heard about someone/something that the person/thing isn't well-known or famous. By their logic, no-one/nothing in the world is famous because someone has no knowledge of them. Saying it also makes it seem as if the person is talking about trivial things or that the other person is being malicious to them. Overall saying this phrase makes them sound like a close-minded douche.

I know it's just a phrase/joke most of the time but it still makes them sound rude. If you are ever in a situation where someone is telling you something you don't know about just admit you do have knowledge of the subject instead of being an asshole.

Bah to anyone famous
Stop worrying about how you look, and start worrying about how you play. Get out on the field and play paintball the best you can, not stand at home in front of a mirror trying to figure out if your jersey matches your eyes.

"Well if they're so famous, why haven't I heard about them?"

"Well sonny, you would've heard about them if you hadn't had your head so far up your rear breathing in your own aroma as you get so full of yourself."

Yeah. Whenever me and my friends state their favorite celebrities, it pisses me off when someone says they've never hear of Ellen Page. Not sure if this relates but I hate it regardless.

Defensive people often say that because they feel as though you're accusing them of being ignorant for not knowing this person.

Also, this is Ellen Page. The chick who plays the title character in Juno as well as Rogue in X-Men.

so, because someone who most likely doesnt follow football doesnt know about a well known football player you get mad/upset... someone who is well known in a demographic is famous... there is a difference between "world famous" and "famous".... someone who is world famous has moven beyond their demographic and is know well nkow outside
their area... since you are talking about football, look at Strahan(sp), he is now the co-host with Kelly Rippa on the morning show... i am sure more people outside of football, and sports in general, now know who he is... i highly doubt any of our american athletes are "famous" outside of our country, where as most americans dont know about any of the big names in foreign sports...
