So there's going to be a scenario at my local field next Saturday. I really want to go, but here's my problem-my parents don't want to take me. When they go, I usually only stay for about 4 hours, and they always stay with me because they think I might get hurt. The scenario is from 9 to 4, and they think that that is way too long. I need to convince them that I can take care of myself and don't need them there.please try to give me some tips on convincing them

do you have any friends or someone they know that you will be with? sending the texts updates might help. you can also have them talk to the field owner or one of the head refs when they drop you off.

I think the phone thing is a good idea. I do play with a couple of my friends, but i don't know them outside of paintball. I'll see if one of the refs will talk to them. Thanks!

I'm 12

I wouldn't leave a 12 year old at a scenario without some kind of supervision either. Unless you have a friend who is going who has their parents there, it likely won't happen. Hate to be the barer of bad news, but its reality.

My dad bought a cheap TrackPhone from Wal-mart and I keep that with my stuff. He calls and leaves a voice mail about every 3 hours. I call him back when I see he left a message. My parents are pretty comfortable leaving me at my local field because I go all the time and I know some of the refs now. When I wanted my parents to let me buy my Bob Long Vice they said it was too expensive (even though I had made my own money for it). Then I made a "top ten reasons" list for them and they told me I could get it as long as I didn't complain that I didn't have money for other things.

I say make a list of the top ten reasons why they don't need to stay there with you and why they should take you.

In those 2 years you get taller and more mature. No offense OP but I was not the brightest 12 year old.

See if you can talk with your parents about your neighbor and also maybe a disposable cell phone. Good luck.

I wouldnt leave a 12 year old at the field, no matter how mature they were. If there was an adult I know that was there then sure. 14 would still be a maybe, depending on their maturity. 15+ sure they can stay at the field.

They have left me at another field once, but that was 10 minutes away from my house. The field that the scenario is at is about 45 minutes away. I guess I'll just try

Dont most fields require parent/guardian supervision if you are under like 16 anyway?

Now if we lived back in the 50's where kids ruled the world and parents didnt care what they did as long as they were home for dinner, then id see no reason why you shouldnt be allowed to go. However, most parents now freak out about letting their kid go on a field trip with school. So good luck man.

You're all making me feel short. Im 21 and 5'10". But anyways, I'm not a parent yet, but I do have younger siblings, and one is 13. Close enough. I wouldn't leave her anywhere without supervision. When my younger brother was that age I wouldn't leave him anywhere alone either. Its not that I don't think that they are irresponsible, or you would be either. Its that I don't trust the other people that would be there. Is there fair chance that everything will be fine? Sure. But what if something happens? What if it could have been prevented or less bad if I was there? That's their worry. Not that you will be irresponible (maybe a little), but that someone else will do something to you.

Im 18 and 6'3 you are all short as hell to me.

My little brother just turned 14 and luckily for him. I have a car, and a well paying job. When we want to play paintball we get in my car I drive wherever the hell we want to go and I pay for most of it except for his paint. "Asshole shoots too much for me to even think about paying for that." Your best bet is to find a family member or close friend who is willing to take responsibility for you as well as go play with you. Big brothers, fathers, uncles, cousins, older friends. Somewhat of a paintball "mentor." At some point everyone had one and it makes life so much easier. When I first started it was a friend who was 2 years older than I who could drive me to fields and show me the ropes. Eventually you will outgrow your need for a "mentor" and you continue to play paintball with them. But now you will have your own "disciple." Its the best way to grow paintball, next level jedi order shit.

There's a 6'1" 13 year old that plays with his dad at my field. He hasn't been playing too long and other players sometimes forget that he is still just a kid and not very experienced. I have to always remind myself of that and try to treat him the way some of the more experienced guys treat each other on the field.

The neighbor is definitely the way to go. Just make sure your parents know the neighbors really well. That usually helps.

You're 12 and shouldn't be left alone at an event IMO. Best you go with a group or ask your Dad to play. Explain why a scenario is different from regular field play.

Also maybe you should show them how prepared you are for a long outing, make 2 meals, bring lots of water, sunscreen, bug spray., etc.  with the friend thing might help ease their minds.

When did your age and height turn into a penis measurement system ?

Stop worrying about how you look, and start worrying about how you play. Get out on the field and play paintball the best you can, not stand at home in front of a mirror trying to figure out if your jersey matches your eyes.
