I'm relatively new to pump and I was just wondering if this is supposed to happen.  Whenever I shoot a ball, the pump handle on my sniper recoils backwards.  This is not that big of an issue but it makes it difficult to grip the pump handle when playing, and I don't want to hold the handle forward because if I do, the shot is significantly louder.

That's normal. What's happening is that because you have the paintball and the air trying to move down the barrel, we have an equal and opposite reaction against the gun, which is absorbed by the bolt and everything connected to it.

Pro tip:

when you chrony the gun, make sure you hold the pump forward to get maximum velocity (forces more of the air to go down the barrel, Ball goes slightly faster.) That way, when you're playing, if you hold the pump handle forward, you'll still be under the field limit.

Yea the shots louder cause the air is actually going down the barrel. If you let the pump handle come back, then you lose air up the feedneck, which generally isn't a good thing. Most experienced pumpers will tell you you should hold the pump forward. Is it a big deal? No, but that is just how it SHOULD be done.

I do it the other way around I chrono without the pump handle so I stay right under field limits when I play I hold the pump handle :)

That is not safe, against field rules, and is pretty much cheating. If you are doing anything to make your gun shoot above the field limit, you need to stop.

lets not start shit on my thread, please.  Also let's not joke in a way that might confuse other pump newbs into thinking that it's okay to shoot above the field limit
