Hi everyone. I keep hearing everyone say how much they hate the vapor and that they will never buy a marker that Spurlock was involved with. I have a few questions. First, who the hell is Spurlock and why does everyone hate him? Second, what are the problems with the vapor? Why does nobody want a vapor? It looks like such a fantastic marker. Thanks

It may look like a fantastic marker but it is not all about looks. A guy at my field brought his v1 vapor to the field and it did not work for the entire day and a few months later he brought it back v3'd and it still did not work.

The short version, he was involved in various products that are basically copies of others, he's been with a bunch of different companies that are no longer around, and many people say all his products are terrible, etc.

Basically, people don't like him because of history.

The trigger and board are shit IMO. There's a reason they're selling for a third their original price already.

My team bought 3 vapors directly from Andrew Spurlock. One of them did not come with a board, another leaked like crazy, and the other one worked fine. They shot alright, but the trigger is weird.

There is literally no reason to take a Vapor over a Luxe, Clone, Geo, DM, etc. In no ways is its shot quality (which TBH is just as good as a Luxe or Clone, I wont knock it there) or efficiency (also very good on a Clone or Demon) worth taking the risk of the serious issues you could run into.

Alright. I just never got what was so bad about the vapor since it shoots like a clone or luxe. I get everything now

There was no counterfeit scandal, only Zodiac making allegations and blowing shit way out of proportion. Zodiac, after claiming improper manufacturing specs, said they wouldn't pay the manufacturing company for the product. Spurlock basically said that if they weren't going to pay him (and he claimed that everything was manufactured to spec, it was the designs from Zodiac which were faulty to begin with), he was going to have to recoup the money that Zodiac cost him by selling the stock he had. Zodiac then basically started screaming their heads off to anyone that would listen that he was trying to sell counterfeit ZR-1s. Not only was that not true, but he didn't even go beyond that initial response. No "counterfeit" parts were sold.

Spurlock was also behind the DXS Pulse loader... which, if my memery serves me, was a copy of of the Halo B with a direct link to the board... he was sued for patent infringement over that i believe, could be wrong though...

Cole, formally of Zodiak, is another person who has done some damage to paintball companies... he was involved with FEP, claims to have designed the first Quest, which had QC issues just like the Zodiak did... and just like Zodiak, he walked away from FEP as well...

i personally will never buy a product from a company thats involved with either of these men, because i have no faith that said company will last, and no faith in their honoring a warranty... once you make a mad name for yourself, its very hard to recover

This thread makes me laugh.

Shooting both a Luxe and Vapor now...   I'd take a Vapor WAYYY over it. Easier to maintain, Lighter, OLED board makes Everything pretty Simple.

Don't read this bull shit how Vapors don't work.. The V1's had problems, and all the other vapors that had problems were treated like Egos and were Beat to fuck.

Thats because people who buy them they tend to try and justify their horrible purchase.

I'm just busting his balls but he would be crazy to take a vapor over a luxe, and he is rightm the V1s did have problems, as did the V2's and 3's. He may have gotten a good one, but the reason you hear so much bad about them is because they are pretty bad and are not worth even close to their price tag.

They are good markers when they work and they definitely shoot nice, but I would stay away from them, there is a reason they are selling for less than have their retail price.

i think it was only the fusion, which was an Oddessy RPM, with a vertical adapter.

The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

I owned a vapor for 3 months and used it pretty much every weekend (maybe two weekends off) and never had an issues with it during that time. It was a v1 with the v3 updates. Honestly one of the better markers I've owned over the years. I never even had to change an oring on it. Just wiped it clean after every weekend or two and lightly coated it with monkey poo.

That's all it needed. If you treat them right, they'll serve you well. Just like any marker...

If I had any gripe at all it would have been the ape board itself. Just because it got me a minor penalty at a tourney. I had it set on 12.5, but the virtue clock read 13 bps lol

The triggers could have been better aswell, but I got used to it pretty fast and being in psp any trigger is manageable.

-------------------

As for Spurlock? I don't think he has much to do with Machine anymore from what I've heard. I dislike the guys ethics, but I'd still shoot a vapor because I like them. I could care less whos behind it.

lets look back at a few guns from companies that got bad reps...

the Dye NT... the first run of NT's had issues... Dye fixed the issues, but the guns didnt shoot like the customers claimed they would, so the gun got a bad rep... did some of them have issues? of coursethey did... it was an od design that didnt seem fully thought out when it was pushed to market...

Proto SLG... this gun was nothing but fail, i personally have never seen one that didnt have an issue... but, there have been reports of a few making it to market that worked flawlessly....

the Invert Mini... too 3 generations for Invert/Empire to get it right... and i personally still see V3 minis with issues show up at my field...

there are a reason these guns got bad reps... unlike others, like pretty much every smart parts gun (bandwaggon haters)

end users are finding that for the most part vapors are not worth what they paid for them new, for whatever reason.... yes, there are people out there that have vapors that work flawlessly... but, it seems like the people with non working vapors are a louder and more numerous community... in this instance, given the reputation of the owners of Machine and the man/men backing it, buy at your own risk...

Its not macroless but a Clone VX. Try it out to see if you like the Clone platform and if you like it sell it and save up some more for a GT.

Its not macroless but a Clone VX. Try it out to see if you like the Clone platform and if you like it sell it and save up some more for a GT.

Well I know clone vx but I really want to stay macroless. Also, anno condition doesn't matter

Why does Machine have a bad rep? I'll try to summarize it for everyone.

1) They built a huge hype behind the marker. Everyone and their mothers wanted one. This created a very high expectation of the vapor, even with Spurlock behind it.

2) They rushed the production of the vapor, when the v1 came out it had issues that should have been resolved before being sold to the public. It should have been tested longer, and released with parts similar to the current v3 parts. This is much like what happened with the invert mini.

3) They priced it way to high from the start. Then when people started having issues with them they took it rather harshly. Can you blame them though? They just spent a large amount of money on a marker that is having multiple issues out of the box.

4) They shouldn't have promised a loader that wasn't complete yet... Stupid business ethics and it still hurts their rep to this day.

5) The v2 internals came out, which gave current owners hope in their vapors, but the v2 parts didn't help much at all. They were not released to make vapors perform better, the v2 parts just fixed some of the problems with the asa, and the top hat demensions. When it didn't fix much of anything current owners were still pissed off... and still missing their loaders... Can't say I blame them.

6) By this time their rep was in the shitter... vapors were selling dirt cheap and everyone continued to bitch about the loader they didn't have.

7) v3 parts were finally made. They were a free update and actually fixed most of the problems with the vapor. After all the previous shens it was almost too late for the vapor. All of the previous shit left a bad taste in peoples mouths, and people won't let go of their past experiences with them. So people still bad mouth them for that reason... That or they're people that jumped on the banwagon.

8) Customer service is still iffy, but I believe things are looking up for Machine with GI being the distributor for them.

............

All this being said, I still loved my v3'ed vapor and I will be giving the 2014 a try.
