I am looking at spending around $350 for a used Drone or Etek 4. I want something reliable and that will shoot ropes. What do you guys think I should get out of those? (NOT an Axe).

I've shot both and I actually have an etek 4 and it shoots great. I personally like poppets better than spool valves mainly because I'm used to the stacked tube design. Anyways the drone is super smooth and the etek is too. Although if you get the chance shoot them before you buy. Good luck :)

The Drone is far smoother than the Etek, a fair amount quieter, and still gets good efficiency.  The Etek has better grips and a better trigger and needs maintenance less frequently.

This. OP: what are the things you look for in a marker as in terms of shot quality? If if could shoot ropes, that doesn't mean anything about smoothness/quietness

Spool vs poppet
Drone for spool
Etek for poppet
simple as that
I would suggest the drone because I don't favor stacked tube poppets

Buy one of these if you want a cheap but nice electro!!!

It depends what kind of person you are. Are you a stacked tube or single tube? What marker are you using currently? If possible go to a local pro shop and ask to hold those.

My friends and I all shoot spool valve markers. We all feel very comfortable with the single tube, it depends on what is comfortable on you.
