Ok, so today was my last day before school and I spent it playing paintball (great choice IMO). I had some bad and good things today and here is a list:

Bad: Too many rec-ball players, didn't get many hits, hurt my arms and knees from snake slides

Good: Made a new ref friend, talked to the refs and they let me and 3 other people do speedball, talked to the ref I know best who has been playing for 15 years and he is going to give me lessons, and I got some OK footage

Even though I didn't get many hits today I am not going to complain because every paintball has their bad days and I know I will learn from it and get better as time goes on. I am really excited to learn from a 15 year veteran and hopefully get much better. Overall today the good outweighed the bad IMO and I am very happy with how it went.

Tell me what you think

Focus on the bad. Make your week points your strong points. PB takes a lot of practice to get good at. Just be patient.

there was this one time, when i cared what you thought.

oh... wait. No there wasn't.

Jurzy I know which part you mean...I am waiting for my R/C car to sell so I can buy Elbow Pads, Knee pads, and paintball pants. I will focus on the bad and be patient too. I think getting some lessons will help too. There is always room for improvement.

Lessons..... :-/ want to learn how to play real quick. Become friendly with tourny guys. Eventually they will invite you to practices. Nothing like snapping at a pie plate for 2 hours.

ummmm, #1 This ref that would be giving me lessons is a HUGE tourney player and #2 I am friends with a few tourney players that are not refs. Also, These lessons would involve me shooting at him at points and things....

Lessons are one thing but honestly nothing beats experience, grinding out points with a 5 man team is a sure fire way to get better.

I understand, I do need more actual game time, but I think some in person lessons can help too. Normally when I go to try something new (like snake dives) I ask how to do it on here first, but with this I get in person help and I can get questions answered right away.

As with any sport. You have to do it. You cant just have someone tell you, someone can help you fine tune it but you have to do it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. You cant throw a perfect spiral every time unless you always practice throwing a perfect spiral. Your not going to hit a cut fastball in on the hands unless you practice doing it! Muscle memory, eventually you will just do it and have it be totally natural for you.

I understand this too ^

The ref is planning to teach me drills and things to practice at home and on the field when I have time basically.

The killer here though is the environment that it is practiced under. I can turn on an inside pitch all day in the cage and punish a guy when I know its coming, its being able to adapt to gametime situations that make you great. Pop up slides into D1 are easy in your back yard when there are not people trying to lane you out and the turf is not soaked in fill. NOTHING beats game time reps.  Dont try and substitute coaching and off the field practice for game time, more so compliment it.Try and see if your friends on the tourny team will let you practice with them.

You can't get better without getting your ass handed to you.  It's the paintful but sad truth.  Always try to practice against people better than you and after the game talk to them about how exactly things played out and what you could've done differently.
