I couldn't think of anywhere else to post this and I thought this would be the place to post it because this is where experimental ideas are shared, so here we go. I want to know from cockerpunk or anyone else, is it possible to create a mask with built in speaker that could be connected to an ipod or mp3 player? I thought it might be possible but then I also thought that if the soft ears got shot it could destroy the speaker. Tell me what you think.

Sure it's possible, but not very practical. Paintball goes a lot easier when you can hear what's going on around you, especially if you're in the woods and people are trying to sneak around. You need to be able to hear your teammates calling out where your opponents are, you need to be able to hear your opponents' markers so you know where they are if your teammates aren't calling them out, but most importantly, you need to be able to hear the referees. Listening to music makes that a lot more difficult, and means you're nowhere near as useful to your teammates, because you're not able to effectively communicate. So yeah, it's possible, just find two speakers that are small enough, wire them to a power source and a headphone jack, and there you go. Or you could just buy a pair of earbuds.

Or what if instead of using it to play music you could also install a mic and communicate with your team-mates! That would be sick!

I like to call that a radio. ;-)

I've used a radio with a headset very effectively on the paintball field. Just make sure to get one with a single ear piece, so your other ear is free to hear what's going on around you. And boom mics work very well, since it positions the mic right in front of your face and you don't have to try and talk through your mask.

Something like this would work great for a radio.

If you used a radio in speedball I think it would be sooo effective because all the constant ramping is so loud which makes it hard to here the positions your team - mates are calling out. A radio would make it easier to here you team - mates.

That would not be practical or legal for play.

Well, the rules could be changed but I do see where you come from. And why would it not be practical?

Cheating, and if you can't hear your teammates call positions you can do a few things:

  • Get a quieter marker
  • Tell them to get a quieter marker
  • Tell them to yell louder
  • Get your hearing checked

Ramping is not that bad or loud at all.

I don't think ramping is bad and I don't have trouble hearing my team - mates I just thought this would be an interesting thing to discuss.

You think hearing coaching/communication is hard now?  Try it with paint hitting bunkers on an indoor field.

Ok, to clarify. I don't think it is hard to here what my other team - mates are saying. I only thought this would be a good idea if someone couldn't hear well or something like that.

I think the angel eyes would have been a huge success. IMO they looked awesome and I would have bought them and they looked so clean.

No, the angel eyes were supposed to have built in channels so that you could have a boom mic going through the foam, so it would be more comfortable to wear. They weren't going to actually come with radios, just a way to make it more comfortable for you to wear a headset and the mask at the same time.

Definitely would've made it a lot more comfortable wearing a boom mic. The ear piece pushing the headset against my ear started to hurt after a while. Hopefully the angel eyes would've prevented that pressure and it would've been more comfortable to wear the mic.

My mistake, shoulda guessed since radios aren't allowed in tournament play.

People have been saying that for a long time. There was still the problem of the lens not meeting ASTM requirements. I highly doubt they'll ever be picked up and made by anyone.

I doubt they won't, the problem with the lense was based on angel wanting to make the lense insanely large.

One thing I'd find annoying is that your mask is then attached to you. Want to set your mask down at your car and then go to the bathroom or go to the pro shop? Gotta make sure to unplug your mask first. Might not sound like much, but it can be a pain and annoying.
