I was having an argument with a friend about if it possible to have a poppit gun without an asa? I thought about this and wouldn't the mechanics have to work totally different and therefore not be a true poppet design? Please help settle this argument. Thanks.

The ASA is completely independent of the design of the gun. It's possible to have any gun without a traditional ASA.

What the wookie said. Regardless of the design of the firing engine, you need something to connect the tank to the gun. No reason that it needs to be a traditional ASA, though. It could be an integrated port on the grip...or below the valve...or anywhere, really, as long as there is some sort of passage or hose to get air where it needs to go.

Or an integrated tank.
This is exactly what marketing guns has come down too. a dick waving contest. You can say all the stuff you want but until you whip it out wave it around and prove it to the world everyone will doubt you. -bigx
