I'd advise against this, you're basically changing the amount of voltage the circuit receives. The purpose of a regulator isn't just to drop the voltage down from 18v it also serves to prevent any spikes and it limits current draw. This allows consistent feeding of balls by ensuring constant motor speed. By removing that regulator you're drastically shortening the life of your motors and board.
I would assume that a PBoard uses different components
