So, its a really long story but I've decided I want to start working out for paintball. Tonight I went 2.4 miles for 48 minutes on my elliptical using the cardio program. It felt awesome when I was done. So I want to know what the best ways to workout for paintball and in general are. Post any videos, comments, or suggestions here.

Thanks,

Justin B.

If you are limited to not having a gym. and dont really have weights to use.

One program I like that works on endurance and stamina, is the MARSOC short card

the goal is to do all this without breaks in between, then go for a run afterwords .(or before, i dont remember)

1. 30 Push-ups
2. 30 Air squats
3. 30 Crunches
4. 10 Burpees
5. 10 Windmills
6. 30 Push-ups
7. 30 Mountain climbers
8. 30 Flutter kicks
9. 10 Burpees
10. 10 Cherry pickers (4-count)
11. 30 Push-ups
12. 30 Star jumpers (or jumping jacks)
13. 30 Back Extensions ("supermans")
14. 10 Burpees
15. 10 Chain breakers
16. 30 Push-ups
17. 30 Lunges
18. 30 Hello dollies
19. 10 Burpees
20. 10 Trunk twists
21. 3 Max sets of dead-hang pull-ups or flexed-arm hangs

do this like 2-3 times a week on top of something else maybe.

48 minutes for 2 1/2 miles? You really need to bring that down a good 25 minutes.
See if you can find somebody to pace you on a run. A 7 minute mile is what I typically go for.

I will try this because I do need to improve my endurance but I don't know what some of the stated workouts are so I will have to look them up on the interweb.

You misunderstand. The workout counts down from 48 minutes and it the resistance increase and decrease at different points. I can already run a 7 minute mile.

MARSOC looks pretty solid, you might want to add some wind sprints in too. Sprint 100yds, walk back, repeat 10x. I also like to do planks. 6 min is typically are really nice workout.

2.4 miles in 48 minutes?

Oh come on Justin, I've let myself go in the soccer offseason and I can still get 3.1 miles in 28. :P

And now I have to run and workout for sports, yay.

After I get my full setup, I plan on running on an elliptical for 5 miles everyday in full gear. Seems like a good way to get in shape from a cardio standpoint.

Clearly you are so incompetent that you can't read what I responded to someone else above. It was a cardio program on a Sole Elliptical where you MUST stay on it for 48 minutes and the resistance and incline get very difficult and then slightly less difficult and then difficult again etc. It was not just a wussy workout if that's what your thinking. Seeing as your name is "The Recballer" I would expect you to think like that....

working out isn't about intensity or counting reps or whatever. lots of folks on the facebook and the like love to brag and talk about how they did such and such, or they are so sore or whatever, but at the end of the day, that is counter-productive.

deciding to work out is a lifestyle change pure and simple. this is much harder then lifting any weight, or running any distence, the will to change your life is tough.

its about working out regularity, its about that one day after school/work when you really want to do something else, putting your butt in the gym. its that choice to go workout instead of whatever it is that you think is more important that day.

lots of poeple start working out, and they are stoked and excited, so they way over do it. and then, 2 weeks in, after they have been sore for 10 days streight, they go, damn, this is annoying and stop. and then every time they think about working out again, they think of that time, and how it hurt and was a pain in the ass, and they never go again. this is why i think things like cross fit and personal trainers at gyms are counter productive. they make you hate working out.

the goal is to change your life, so you like working out.

The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

I'm planning on doing the MARSOC short card one day then the next day do a run on my elliptical and then the next day take a break. Repeat.

working out isn't about intensity or counting reps or whatever. lots of folks on the facebook and the like love to brag and talk about how they did such and such, or they are so sore or whatever, but at the end of the day, that is counter-productive.

deciding to work out is a lifestyle change pure and simple. this is much harder then lifting any weight, or running any distence, the will to change your life is tough.

its about working out regularity, its about that one day after school/work when you really want to do something else, putting your butt in the gym. its that choice to go workout instead of whatever it is that you think is more important that day.

lots of poeple start working out, and they are stoked and excited, so they way over do it. and then, 2 weeks in, after they have been sore for 10 days streight, they go, damn, this is annoying and stop. and then every time they think about working out again, they think of that time, and how it hurt and was a pain in the ass, and they never go again. this is why i think things like cross fit and personal trainers at gyms are counter productive. they make you hate working out.

the goal is to change your life, so you like working out.

I'm planning on doing the MARSOC short card one day then the next day do a run on my elliptical and then the next day take a break. Repeat.

Imo, screw the elliptical. I've used all sorts of cardio machines and I own an elliptical too. I'd do the MARSOC every other day. Once your body gets stronger and isn't as sore from doing it every other day, you can add in the elliptical or whatever the hell you want. Starting off doing everything will do exactly what cocker is saying - make you hate it.

Do you have access to a gym? School weight room? Bodyweight workouts are fine, but weights are the way to go if you have the option.

No access to a gym but we do have some dumbbells that are 20 lbs. and I think we have some 8 lb ones.

Just finished the workout I did the first time on my elliptical. Same amount of time and same resistance because it was the same program but I increased my distance by .3, which I think is pretty good. I have been working out regularly now. I just haven't been giving a blow by blow on here.

When I started cardio training I started with intervals, running to walking.  I've always kept the same total time for the workout, just increased the ratio of running to walking every couple of weeks.  So far I'm up to 60% running on my total workout time.  Usually gives me a little under 2 miles of running a day.  Not much but I've noticed a great increase in my cardio.  Once I'm up to 100% run time then I'll either increase pace or increase duration. 30 minutes is my current total duration.  Again not much but enough for me.

I also bike 30 minutes a night at a moderate pace, more to warm up for my run but also for a little calorie burn.

I play racquetball nightly with almost no down time when a year ago I'd be breathing hard halfway through the first game.  I play 3-4 games a night now with no issues other than sweating.

I lift at least 3 nights a week but typically 4.  Chest Mondays, Back Tuesdays, Shoulders Wednesdays, Arms Thursdays.

Might be something to think about.  I'm obviously not an expert or anything, just what I've done and what has worked for me.

Okay here's my input,

WARNING: Like all workout, body building, muscle building or membran enlargment/enchancement advice, this is purely one of the many "Buts" and one of the many "Also's" nobody is right, and nobody is really wrong. Take what works for you, and build on that.

I'm going to break down "working out" to probably what your trying to do: Improve your Ability Perform.

That is going to come is different forms,
-> Strength, (Explosive movements, quick body action, and essentially, your "Driving" muscles)

-> Endurence, Doing that explosive movement 10 second's after you Just sprinted 30 feet, Your ability to recouperate in brief moments between rests, and your ability to keep your body under control in different situations

->Stability (Tons of people forget all about this one) Everyone seems to focus on the big muscle groups, however they quickly forget about the hundreds of stabilization muscles in your body to keep you going)

__________________________________________

Generally you can work all 3 at the same time for most things you do. Getting better at something usually means somewhat of a combination of those three. Hell even walking at one point will touch on "working out"  I invite you to try to work in "stretching" and Treat a "Stretching" day as important, and as seriously as your regular work out. Search up some basic yoga poses, search up some basic movements, and try to remember, 3 or 4 of them. Nothing crazy, nothing silly. Put yourself into a yoga pose and hold it for 3 minutes. once you get comfortable, try putting 1 or 2 more in. People think stretching is for lady-men with no beards to back up. They are dead wrong, Musclar balance is incredibly crutial for getting stronger, building more muscle and becoming that bad ass inside yourself. Think of it like a multiplier in a game, are you balanced? x2 Score... If you are unbalanced, NO BONUS FOR YOU!

your work outs should build on themselves, and expect NOTHING to change in the first 4 weeks, seriously at the end of this month you should feel pretty much the same. and thats alright, nobody gets suddenly better after 4 weeks, not after 8, or even 12.

As a floating bar, This time next year Is your mark that you are trying to beat. Not in 3 months, or 5 (Yes you Will progress. But remind youself changes are made in little steps, and take time.)

Anyways, I'll leave this at that. if you have any questions we here.
