I'm newish to this website and have started finding things on the bst that I would like to purchase but I don't know the steps to do so.

Mostly I don't know how the paypal transactions work and how you send and recieve money through paypal? and how am I legally protected if i use paypal?

Read the rules and help posts in the BST, that's why they're there.
If you're under 18 and pay for your own stuff, put this in your signature.
On a side note... Royal Highlanders rule!

You will need a PayPal account to use PayPal, and when paying someone for something, you would pay using the "goods and services" option. What this means, is that you can open a PayPal claim within a certain time period after payment if they were trying to scam. Now, this doesn't mean you're 100% protected, but you will have a much better chance at protection than if you were to gift someone money. Also, never gift someone money, even if they ask for it. Asking to gift the money is against PayPal's terms of service anyway.

But for the basic BST process, you and the seller will agree on a deal for an item, then they'd give you their PayPal address. You'd send the agreed upon amount to their PayPal, and when they receive the money they'd ship you the product.

so using the 'goods and services' page i could send them $. they would then recieve it and send me the item we talked about. and dont use the gift option

I assume paypal tells me if they recieved the $ or not? so someone cant claim they didnt recieve it when they did

It depends on how you add the money to your PayPal account to send to them, but PayPal should notify you.

normally the one on paypal is correct.

A 'confirmed address' is an address that is actually an address. I normally google people's addresses before I ship to them so I know it is not getting shipped to an abandoned warehouse somewhere.

It's ok. One thing no one has told you yet is to look for feedback. Generally look for high positive feedback with no negative.
