My dad already loves playing, and he especially enjoys the bonding time it gives us. The 'problem' is,while we were hanging around at ANS today, I mentioned that I really liked the Etek 4. He got really excited when he saw how cool it was, and got really into it when Matt started talking tech. He said it'd be cool for him to use my old gun while I use the etek, and said he really thinks it would be a great marker for me. He said we'd deliberate, and in true old guy fashion, as soon as we got home and he turned on golf, I asked about the etek and he said for now we could do with my old gun. I realized the only time he really considered it was when he got all excited about the game, and visualized playing with the gun. Any ideas on how to get him excited about the game so I could tip him over the edge on this decision?

Couldn't you buy the gun for yourself? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just saw your signature and was kind of confused... But to answer your question, maybe you could try out someone's Etek at the field and maybe play with it for a game or let him play with it and show him the gun to get him excited? Sorry, not the best advice but just an idea.

Im confused. Are you trying to say you want to trick your dad into buying you an etek?

Maybe you could get him interested by getting a used high end marker for the same price as the Etek. If you want me to list some used high end markers you could get, just ask me to. In all honesty, the Etek isn't all that great. A used high end marker will last way longer and get better performance.

Haha yes, I could buy the gun myself. I probably should have been more clear. No matter who pays for the gun, he doesn't want to waste the money on the marker. When I offered to pay, he was iffy haha

Yes, I realize now that the title was a bit misleading. My dad is already 'into' paintball, but the only time he has allowed me to purchase any new gear is when he has gotten really fired up about it, if that makes sense. Sorry guys, I hope you understand that I am not trying to trick him into anything :)

If you are 100% set on the Etek then go for it but personally, I'm with Justin B; I would get an older high end or used gun like maybe a DM9 or a G6R if you like poppets.. Sorry I can't give you the best recommendations, I haven't looked into it very much but I'm sure some guys can steer you in the right way and recommend you a great older high end. Once you get your new (or new to you gun) you can give your older gun to your dad instead of him having to rent (therefore saving you money in the long run...maybe).

If you are set on buying new though, I'd recommend looking into the Drone DX and Axe.

Next time u go out let him use ur setup and if he's enjoying it ask him if he'd want to use it all the time. If he says yes then take him to the pro shop between games
