im 15 about to turn 16 in august and my parents told me to start looking for a car online that i want with a 5-6k budget. i really like subies and any ricer lookin or sounding car. i just dont know what to get that will be reliable and is still cool. i live in southern illinois so availability of certain brands of cars may not be available, because everyone is redneck and they just love their big trucks.

Look at the dodge charger. It's 4 doors so you can fit your friends and it is fast and reliable. Not sure if you would like it though. I'm turning 16 soon too and I know for sure I'm getting a jeep wrangler or a little truck like a Toyota Tacoma. Hope this helps

I don't think a Charger would be ideal for a first car. Fast, not that great on gas, and insurance for a 16 year old is going to suck.

Just get an older car for cheaper, and use the money you saved to get something better in the future. I had an '03 impala with 220k miles on it and I beat the shit out of it and it still went fine. Just get something that's good on gas, good with insurance, cheap to maintain, and something you won't mind getting scratched.

Get a civic... Awesome milage, and decent throttle response for a 4-cylender... plus it looks 1/2 decent.

Fast, good looking, decent gas, and 2/4 door options

Toyota MR-2

Honda Civic

Mazda RX-7

All of those are pretty reliable, get good gas mileage, look good, and shouldn't be too pricey to work on, besides the Mazda, because of the rotary engine.

I'd get something German. But you have to do the work yourself unless you wan't to spend alot on maintenance.
Nothing beats a German car when it's maintained. But if you want the ricer look(For some wierd reason) get a Civic.

In my opinion it looks like shit, it certanly drives like shit, but it's fairly reliable and economical.

I just said a charger because the op said he wanted something fast and sporty, I agree with you that it's not an ideal first car, just something that fits in his "racer looking or sounding" specifications

If you want something cheap, reliable, good on gas and won't bend you over on insurance, get a Civic.

If you want a ricer look (I don't understand why, but to each his own), I'd suggest a Nissan 240SX. They can have good potential, not bad on gas, and insurance shouldn't gut your bank account. Reliability, not sure, you never know what someone else did to one of them.

The only way I'd get a 3000gt is if it had the VR-4 package.

Underrated? I'd say it's as overrated as a Honda S2000.

How could an S2K be overrated? Honestly they are the two best roadsters you can get for the money. Not only that, but a convertible MADE to be a convertible, is hella better than a coupe with the roof chopped off.

You drive a front-engined Porsche for Pete's sake, your opinion is worthless  :P

How is my opinion worthless because I drive a front egined Porsche? I drive a 968 mind you. A car engineered by Porsche, designed by Porsche and produced in Zuffenhausen, the very same place the 911 came out of. Everything on that car is as Porsche as the 993. If you're one of those guys thinking it's an VW with a Porsche badge, just because the early models of the 924 had some VW parts and an engine block made by Audi(the rest of the engine was all Porsche-made). I got nothing left to discuss about my car with you. Go read some history and get back to me.

And when it comes to the S2k and why I say it's overrated is simple.
It's a good roadster allright, but everyone seems to think they're magical in some way because of V-tec. Not to mention they think they're the best thing to ever happen. I like the S2k, but it's overrated.

If you want a hairdresser car(also known as roadsters) Get a Boxster and be done with it.

If your dad can up your budget a bit you can look into getting a 2dr infiniti G35. Pretty much a nissan 350z under a different name... I see them go around my town anywhere from 6,000 USD all the way up to 12,000 USD.

the answer is always miata.

The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

I've always liked the Eclipses that had the basket handle spoiler, they grew on me eventually. But if I get an eclipse it has to be a second gen and it has to be a GSX.

Twas a joke, kind sir. I for one think your car is lovely, but I also know that if I were buying a Porsche, I wouldn't be wasting my time with anything that wasn't a 911.

The Boxster just looks awful, and the S2K and Miata are cheaper and better IMO. Saying the S2K is overrated is like saying an Empire Axe is overrated. So what if everyone has one? It simply is the best performing roadster for that price.

As I said, I think it's overrated because everyone say they're the best drivers car and bla bla bla.
And the Boxster is better, deal with it. And looks better too.

Ick, the Boxster looks awful. But I've never been a fan of convertibles. That's why I'd have to get a hardtop if I ever got a Miata or S2000.

yah the eclipse was a no go dude wanted way to much. in my area though if i look on craigslist or autotrader in areas near me southern illinois isnt exactly a paradise to find nice cars. its all jacked up trucks that get super shit gas mileage. i could try to find an old muscle car what about that.

Depends on the muscle car and it depends on the truck. I think that some trucks look better than some muscle cars, and some muscle cars look better than some trucks, it all depends.

Get something rwd and mostly mech, more reliable in the long run and a lot easier to make faster. Trucks are also pretty cool. It if you want to work on it rwd is again the better choice because it's much easier to work on than awd/fwd.

Spend $2000 on an Econobox and call it a day. No need to spend too much money on a car that you'll most likely crash if you're a first driver.

Don't waste time on Civics, they generally have very bad internal problems and everyone puts it on a pedestal and overprices them because they put a body kit on it.

The less sporty your car looks, the better. Easier to get good insurance for a good price.

Biggest thing to look out for is salvage titles. I'd stay away from those like the plague.

Good luck car hunting.
