I've got a tippmann 98 custom platinum series.  Every time I pull the trigger it shoots two or three times.  I have an e-trigger but it seems to be working when the gun isn't aired up.  It is breaking the paint because of this. can someone help me out.

The trigger is too sensitive and the gun shooting is causing the trigger to bounce on the microswitch, which causes it to shoot again..

Replace the little orange think in the breach, aka the detent.

Is it multiple balls or multiple shots? If it's balls then what the above guys said is the solution. If it's multiple shots it sounds like a worn sear.

yes. its not the detents the gun shoots one ball but two shots.  I do agree it might be the sear or something is wrong with the e-trigger.

If it's a mechanical issue then either the sear is worn, or the sear pin might be broken. A lot of the time when one of the rental Tippmanns at my field would have that issue, it was a broken sear pin.

If it's an electronic issue, adjusting the trigger and how it activates the microswitch on the board might help, as well as making sure it's in semi mode. You can also try adjusting the BPS cap down to slower levels to help avoid accidentally shooting too fast for your hopper as well.

ok thanks.  the guy that I called at tippmann said that he thought it was something to do with the sear but he sent me the sear spring.  It didn't work.  maybe he got mixed up and sent me the wrong part.

Try a new sear. They wear down a bit and it's not a huge expense if it doesn't work. It should be $5 or so.
