I've heard from many people how you should never lay down in paintball... But, I find laying prone to be very effective at reducing what I present to my opponents to shoot at! Which in turn means I last longer in games.

And going prone will often help you blend in, as players don't look down very much as they are too busy scanning for movement. I've had huge groups of enemy players walk within feet of me and never see me as I was laying down and staying still...

Anyway, I made a video from a recent game where you can see the other team just RAINING paint on me, but because I was prone, they couldn't hit me! While I just moved around and took them out player after player...

What do YOU think of the prone position in paintball?

There is a time and a place for prone. Just need to be careful to not overuse.

I think the prone position is part of a good unpredictability strategy when playing in the woods!

For me, I'm all about mobility. Sometimes there are just those plays you have to make in a split second or it wont work. Generally the fields I play at tend to have a good amount of bunkers even on the woodsball fields, so you can normally find spots of good cover. I only ever crawl around if I have to to avoid being hit or seen, because my dumb ass got myself into a shitty situation haha. More often than not, if I'm not running, I'm standing, or kneeling. I just like being able to make a move when i see the small window of opportunity, and even laying prone limits your vision, which is one of the most important things, at least in the way I play.

its perfect for the creepy crawly game, which isn't my favorite way to play, but does work well.

The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

You need to go prone if in a snake and it works great if yiure caught in the woods without any good cover around you.

I don't go prone when playing paintball because my knees suck and I have problems getting back up. I usually don't even kneel behind bunkers for that reason. I generally stand and try to put some brush or low hanging branches between me and the paint, to try and have those things break the paint, instead of trying to hide behind a bunker.

Hopefully going to the gym and losing some weight will help with that, but I don't know.

No reason to go prone unless your bunker is really really long/wide and only ~2 feet tall. So basically unless there's something like a snake bunker on a woodsball field, I wouldn't bother.

I don't lay down on the speedball field. Rec ball? I'll usually lie down if I'm on a dirt mound, and it's easy to wrap around

They got some good photos of that game.

I've had to crawl a bunch.  End up getting dirt/sand all over me.  I miss grass.  Cali is way too dry.
