Hi all,

I'm wondering what the proper etiquette is for settings for a walk-on day at a paintball field? Our local field has hyperball, woodsball, airball, and a few scenario type fields. I notice that the walk-ons with their own equipment tend to shoot whatever modes they want in.

One dude on my team admitted to being in PSP 3 ball burst due to not feeling like switching to semi on his Vanquish. Seemed kinda unfair to the guys using T98s, Spyders, and rentals.

Is everyone usually expected to play on semi auto, or whatever they want generally on walk-on days?

Thanks all!

Semi Capped at 10 bps in the woods

You step onto the speedball field and you play against 12.5 PSP.

I usually play semi 6-8 against rentals. Psp 13 against average players.

Ok, so it sounds like PSP in rec play isn't uncommon. I just wanted to make sure, as I just got my own gun capable of shooting in those modes now, but didn't want to play in a mode that wasn't appropriate.

When in doubt, ask a ref or manager at the field where you play. It's possible that different modes might be appropriate at different times, depending on the mix of players.

Most if the time, I find that the games aren't refed. Not really sure where they are or what they are doing lol I hear that is typical when the owner isn't there. They also let you shoot your own paint if he's not there. That's why I'm wondering etiquette because I rarely see a ref.

I usually just set my gun to semi upcapped. But apparently while i was out of the game for a few month they decided to set to field limit to 8 BPS, and that just makes me wanna go buy a nice pump instead of a new electro. But as the other said, when in doubt, go ask.

as a ref my self it is just wrong that there is not at the minimum one ref on the field at all times. even when the owner is not there still there needs to be at the minimum one ref. we refs are there to keep people safe that is the bottom line.

as for the firing modes when i play with renters i use semi capped at 8-10.

Semi capped seems fair to me. I think I wound be frustrated if I was a renter playing against a more skilled person ramping.

Well I like the field because it is the closest to me. Beyond that, the lack of refs is annoying, especially when they are there and just dinking around inside. I've found 14 years ago that a warning of "next time you ________, you will get hit up side your head after the game with my empty CO2 bottle" worked as a deferent for a-hole players lol.

Yeah probably will do that. I don't want to go ramping on some noob with a rental gun (unless that's acceptable and expected) because I went through that, and it didn't feel fair at that moment.

I would never ramp on a walk on. Even when I get put with rentals and play against tournament folk, they don't ramp. Walking the trigger quickly seems to be an advantage, so I keep it semi uncapped

I leave mine on semi uncapped.  If someone starts to ramp or walk quickly I can match them(without ramping).

Rec ball... You mean bring out the mech or pump and have a fun day?

The last time I screwed up and didn't bring my rec ball marker I shot at semi 25 (highest axe cap). It's surprising how much people you can shoot out with so little paint, but then again I excerise trigger control

I play with a Mini GS now. Pump play never interested me if that's what you're asking? I leave my Mini GS on semi 20 bps which I figure is pretty much uncapped. I might drop that down to 8-10 though out of fairness and to help conserve paint.

What I was trying to get at is I use mechanical markers (semi or pump) for recball play.

And there is no need to turn on a cap or even lower your cap if you can use proper trigger control. I had my axe set on 25 bps semi the last time I played walkons / rec ball, I mean as long as you are not being an ass and over shooting plus just wasting paint laying ropes to keep a poor renter in a bunker it's all good.

Setting a cap is not going to help you conserve paint, trigger control will

I usually do the same. 99% of the time i one-ball but I can still match another guy with an electro if need be.

For recball, If I shoot an electro its 10bps semi, but 90% of the time I'm shooting a pump or resurrection.

My guns stay in PSP 12.5 partly because on uncapped semi I can outwalk PSP 12.5 I play a mix of tourny, scenario and rec. Just dont be a douche and understand the situation.

My mode is as fast as my finger, which might be 10 bps if I want to throw accuracy out the door and just twitch my finger like Michael J. Fox licking a car battery.
