I am still relatively new to paintball I have done my research and all though. You can compare me to a west pointer, I know quite a bit but I don't have that much experience under my belt. So my question is my field needs refs and I was wondering would that help me get experience or should I wait.

Thanks

That would teach you not to be scared of getting hit a lot. So I would definitely say that is experience.

LL8 couldn't come any faster.

Reffing is a good way to see other people make mistakes, so there is the opportunity to learn a lot.  I'm not sure that will necessarily help you learn communication or the "best" way to do things, but it will certainly teach you what not to do.  Generally for rec ball the same answer for success is always true - move up, stay under cover, work as a team.

Reffing is an amazing way to gain paintball experience! You get to see more of the fields and the tactics that go along with each field. You also will get used to being hit, not to mention that you get paid while doing so. Some fields even offer discounts to their refs. :)

If I get the job I will reff, sell paint, hose off bunkers at the end of the day, fix rental guns, and hopefully get to play a little.

Could have just said everything. That's fun though you get to learn the ins and outs of guns at your field.

They are nice guns but remember they are rentals people won't care for them as if they were their own.

Make sure kids don't use their rental gun as a fucking cane.  You would think it's a rare problem but you just watch, some kid will fall down or be crawling, then stick their barrel in the ground and use it to pull them to their feet!

If that's the only job you can land go bananas I guess. There isn't too much glamor behind getting shot up with paintball and have people bitching at you.

And yes I have ref multiple times. None of them really fun, best part is usually after work where we shoot the wind and drink beers. Also include shaking Porta potties while people are inside after hours, that's always fun

Even if people were doing this all the time (and I've never seen it) trying to stop it would be as futile as most things we try to make people do or prevent them from doing when reffing.

Yeah not getting a "real" job this close to school starting.

A "real" job will probably get you more hours on evenings and weekends, especially through the winter unless you are working at an indoor field.

Hustle when you're working, interact with the customers between games encourage them and give pointers to the renters. Make sure they always have their masks on on the field and for the love of god leave your cell phone in you bag until you're done working.

First day was awesome! The guys there were great and helped me out, i met a few that will/are going to the same school as me. And i know now i won't be afraid to get hit cause at the end me and another new ref had to run the gauntlet which is down to one end and back while a line of people shot at us. I got hit bout 100 times counted between 60-70 bruises/welts..........fucking bonus ballers.   :P
