Hey, i noticed that in a 32oz. bottle of Gatorade there is 200 Calories, So that led me to thinking, instead of that wouldn't water be just as good. I mean you wont have 200 extra calories, and you are still hydrated, even for sports... Is Gatorade good for sporting events, or should i just bring water?

Edit think about it if you bring a 64 oz, that is 400 Calories.

I've decided to put this as my sig, because I'm not cool enough for pictures :'(

Drink mostly water but some Gatorade won't hurt you. I wouldn't drink 64 oz of Gatorade at the end of the day when you're packing your gear up, probably just before and during the beginning of the game/day.

But to fight dehydration you're supposed to start drinking water the night before so you are hydrated for the day. And take sips of water throughout the day.

It should also be known that if you feel thirsty ever it means you are dehydrated already.

I usually have a gatorade after a day of play. I drink a ton of water throughout the day though.

I think Gatorade is bad. One because all that sugar gets caught in your throat so you get cotton mouth. And two it has so many unneeded calories. Yes its good to keep you hydrated.

Pickle juice does what gatorade does just in much much smaller amounts, and it's better for you.

It will depend on when you drink it. Gatorade isn't bad but it isn't all that good for you unless you're body needs the sugar. If you playing really hard and excerting yourself then your body is going to use up whats called glucogen. This is the sugar and carbs that your body stores in its muscels. So you have about a 1 hr window after your body is excerted heavily to get some sort carb into your body before it will actually start to burn your muscle to get the glucogen. You dont' have to drink a sugar filled drink to do that. U can also each like a trailmix since you'll be getting carbs and protien. You never really want to eat any carbs w/o some sort of protein. This will help to keep your insolin leval down.

-- Water will alwasy be better than Gatorade, milk is actually the best way to re-hydrate your body, but I wouldn't recomend drinking that when your heartrate is up and its warm out.

The key is to keep your body hydrated before you play and you wont' need as much when your done.

Calories are not the enemy. If you're playing sports, you want to have calories, because calories are energy. Also, unlike water, gatorade contains electrolytes, which can be sweated away, but they help you greatly with sports.

But since lots of people drink gatorade like it was fruit juice, the company has to make it taste good, and that is where the benefits go away. There are better sports beverages for you in the long run, but gatorade has been proven to work.

Tomato juice or V8 juice will replace electrolytes just like any sports drink, and it's actually good for you.

They also make electrolyte tablets.

electrolytes = to sodium, yes the more you workout the more you lose water and sodium.. but the more sodium you intake than out take is not good plus more sodium and sugar = to grams the more you wanna drink and the more you drink sugar the more money for the company HEHE! thats why gatorade has money because you wanna drink more...

You should start drinking water 48 hours before a day of play. for me I play rugby too. I have games at 4:30 ish so I drink one bottle of gatoraid early in the day like at noon and just drink water. then after the game you drink some more.

try doing half water, half Gatorade, or maybe a little more water then gatorade. Water is the best for hydrating, but the nice thing about gatorades is that it provides electrolytes. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but pretty much im sure what electrolytes do is allow your blood and water inside your body to better dissolve substances that you need.

Gatoradeis not going to be as good for you as water. However, it can be better than many other sweet drinks. The problem is that a lot of people don't drink nearly as much water as they should. The biggest benefit of Gatorade is that since it tastes good, you will want to drink more of it, thus possibly helping you stay more hydrated.

This is a huge part of it. Personally, I drink mostly water during the day, but Gatorade with lunch (energy bars).

Kind of. Electrolytes are just ionized salts. They are key components in your body's electrical system. Having the proper amount make you move, see, and think better. Believe it or not, Gatorade is superior to drinking only water for exercising a long time, like a day of paintball

Gatorade is way worse for u than soda, because of all the sodium in it and can cause serious health problems l8er down the road, but if u drink one every once in a while it cant hurt u. I dont think. The University of Florida (who obviously is sponsored by g8erade) only puts one small pack in the 10 gallon jug.

Gatorade should be used primarily as an after the day is over drink. I think it even says on the bottle that it is meant to RE-plenish, RE-fuel, and RE-hydrate. Its not supposed to be your primary source of hydration, but merely another compliment to it. Used at the end of the day, it can balance out your glucose and electrolyte levels to help avoid cramping and burning the wrong compounds.

Believe it or not, the military tells us to drink a QUART OF WATER EVERY HOUR to maintain peak hydration levels. You might think that is way too much, but trust me, after drinking that much water for a couple of weeks, go just one day without water, and you can easily feel the difference.

I will laugh as they overwhelm our enemies in a flurry of spotted banana hammocks.

drinking gatorade is not bad for you at all expically g2. when you sweat you arent just sweating water you are sweating water and all exces vitimans and minerals that your body did not absord. So when you sweat your body is ridding itself of extra substances it didnt initally absorb but now you need to replenish those vitimans and water back into your body. gatorade and simmilar (excluding powerade) give you back those vitimans and minerals to keep your body preforming. but as i say above you need to start hydrating 48 hours before for maximum preformance. a helpful my mom/coach told me is that hydration is preformance. if your not hydrated your not gonig to preform to your best ability.

I will agree that gatorade does have kinda a lot of calories and sugar. I would recommend watering it down like many of the people here are saying. But it does help. I saw this health video once in class and they told us all about energy drinks and their uses. The electrolytes help give back what your body uses to keep you going, and since your body is actually using more of it than if you were drinking water, you have to pee less out. Overall water does fine when it comes to just hydrating you, but gatorade gives you the energy. Gatorade is only necessary during hard exercise, so if you're a lazier player who doesn't work very hard, gatorade is not for you. But overall, gatorade is a good way to gain back energy and is DEFINITELY not nearly as bad for you as soft drinks.

The only possible explanation I can think of for this is if your gatorade was extremely cold and your body was extremely hot. You're the first person I've ever heard experience this, it's safe to say it won't be replicated to the OP

Ok, so when you sweat what do you expul from your body?

Salt, water, some sugars...

and If you drink milk, what are you replacing that with?

Fat.

the smartest thing is to drink water and a watered down sports drink, a normal gatorade makes me thirstier from the amount of sugar and salt, meaning you won't be getting enough hydration from JUST gatorade.

I hope this helps

Just think.. Gatorade was invented by one of hte coaches at Florida state University. It was invented so that when you are practicing or working out in extrme heat like Florida you will not only quench your thirst and retain valuable minerals that you won't find in water but the bit of salt in there also ensures or helps ensure that you are still going to continue to drink. so is it good for you? in moderation like all things. and don't be so concerned about caloric intake because when doing something that is strenuous like paintball you need to intake calories to keep your energy up. that is why in the middle of my game day if I am feeling a little tired i will honestly eat a snickers. not just the sugar in the snickers but also the peanuts will help bring your energy back up for the last few rounds. it is always everyhting in moderation.

gatorade is really suppost to replenish ur electrolytes once u have had a hard work out or something. Its not as good for you if you just drink it while sitting around. If you look at the lable there is alot of sugar in (original) gatorade. so water is probably your best bet unless your working extremly hard

Actually, it was Florida doctors.

Yes, it has sugar in it, but honestly, you guys are just going completely bonkers when it comes to sugar. Sugar is not the best stuff for you, and too much will give you a sugar crash, but if you guys are working out how you should, then it won't get that crash, and the calories will be very in the overall calorie intake.
