Semi-big game at Range 14 paintball this weekend. I've got a schedule group of 25-30 folks who gave us a heads up last weekend that they'd be coming out. I love when entire squads come out to play!

Will confirm the exact day tonight, and will try to get plenty of photos, possibly some video too!

Im never around the weapons shop at McChord long enough to remember to bring this up, but.....

What weapons system should replace the M16/4 series?

Should it remain at 5.56x45?

I'd like to gather opinions.

well, being a firearms guru i have though about this alo, and even talked to the a couple people over seas an the new weapon the army is trying to field. having used the M4A1 in combat, i can tell you, the 5.56NATO roud is insanly accurate, but no stopping power. the bulit goes right through. but, being that its a high velocity round, upwards of 3600fps, the round does some crazy shit out to 75m. when a high velocity round impacts at less then 100m, it liquifies the internal organs and conective tissue. but, as for stopping power, it has none, its a through and through round. but, as for the rifle, the M4 works great, if maintained well. i had to clean mine twice a day just because of the dust, but it worked great, never once jamed on me. but out in the field, you wont be able to maintain it like that, just not enough time, or clean areas. the only system that has been proven to truely work in the field is a gas piston system, similar to the AK series of weapons, only with tighter tolerances. the 2 best weapons on the marker for military operators right now are the M14 EBR and the Barrett REC7. the M14 is still .308, or 7.62Nato. adjustable lenth of pull with the stock, and an adjustable cheak piece. all alu. chasis with built in rails. teh REC7 is chambered in the new 6.8SPC, its the best of both worlds. the round is light weight like the 5.56 relitively high velocity, and dead of accurate. yet, it has the take down power of the .308, as well as teh range because its a bigger round. other weapon system, like FN SCAR are great rifles, but it too costly for the army to buy. the REC7 is a drop in replacement for the m4, and we already have massive stores of M14's.

You know that assault rifle on Gears of War, with that chainsaw on the front? Yeah, Ill take that over my M16/4/249 anyday. :P

Speaking of which, I dont even have an M16 anymore. Apparently shooting 24, 38, 31, and 28 at the range within 2 months warrants me an M249 instead. Bastards. Oh well. I still get to keep my expert pin. :D

the mk 19 is badass, but i liked the 240 more on the basis that if our truck got hit and we needed to blow it in place, you can take the 240 out of the turret and man pack it. one person can cary a 240 and a couple belts of amo. the new MK.48 is the same idea, its the same thing as the 249 saw, only without the mag well, and it shoots the .308 round.

Cadet Airman Basic in AFJROTC not any high postion as an NCO yet but hope to be soon

Work hard. I wish my high school wasn't as --- as it is and would form an AFJROTC squadron there.

I am im only a Sophmore and im the youngest on our Armed Exhibition team, are unit is weird in terms on ranking so really i bet i would be a staff seargent or higher by now

Yea, talk about weird, I'm becoming a C/SSgt. starting my sophomore year (this year).

Thats cool, lol id easily be one but there are only 3 ways to get promoted, complete a year of JROTC, win Airmen of the Quater, and of course when you get high postions in the Corps

Im never around the weapons shop at McChord long enough to remember to bring this up, but.....

What weapons system should replace the M16/4 series?

Should it remain at 5.56x45?

I'd like to gather opinions.

The FAL in 7.62/.308

The Right Arm of the Free World is only outnumbered by AK47's and variants. Piston operated design similar to that of an M1/M14. It's very robust, although admittedly the rear sights need an overhaul. It also shares common ammo with the M240. It was even a contender for the M14. It weighs a ton, but it hits hard.

I'd love to play with an M249/M240/Mk19, but there's that whole "signing up" and "Two way shooting range" part that really turns off the notion for me. ;-) God bless the brave men and women of our Armed Forces!

My group of 25 to 30 became 6, which were unable to procure a van to drop them off at the field. No pictures and videos of military ballers in action, unfortunately. We'll still honor their group discount the next time they come out though!
