I'm going to tell you my practice / tournament secret

This breakfast is one of the most bulletproof ways to have sustained energy, without the nonsense of crashing later. You'll feel alert, full, tons of energy, and you can go on for hours with no problem at all. It's the ONLY thing I will eat before a long day of playing, or a tournament

Bagel & Peanut Butter
Small glass of OJ
Half Gallon of cool water

The OJ gives ya an immediate burst of sugar to wake ya up. The bagel & peanut butter give you a sustained source of fuel throughout the day. The water wakes you up, gets you hydrated and feeling good. You should be peeing every 10 to 15 minutes until your day starts, but the water gets you hydrated and feeling great.

Give it a shot, I think you'll like the results

This is my problem... Sometimes I dont even eat til lunch but im not a competative player on a team or anything so I just do my own thing at my own pace throughout the day.

I usually don't eat in the morning when I play because I am too busy thinking about paintball and getting out the door to get there.

But I eat a good meal the night before and drink lots of water during the day that I play.

Small Bowl of Oatmeal
Small glass of OJ
Nutrigrain bar(finish off)

It works well for me. I don't eat too much in the morning, but you can make oatmeal just about anywhere. Or make beforehand and heat up at hotel or something. Not too much, not too little.

Something to add to this.

The night before, make sure your team drinks about 2 bottles of water per person. This also helps with hydration the day of the tourny. I did it before any sport I played competivly

I would recommend using room temperature water, as your body will waste calories heating water up to your body temperature. I'd also have snacks/gatorade on hand to replace lost electrolytes to keep your nervous system running strong.

You could put honey on there, but it doesnt have any protein. A lot of carbohydrates though, so it will fuel you through the day. Some banana on there would mostly add potassium, which can help prevent becoming sore.

As for something that could add protein specifically, I have no other ideas.

I'm like some of the guys on here who cannot just stomach breakfast anymore. I don't know why, but It's just hard for me most of the time. That said, it is really important that you guys do choke something down. My personal recomendation is calorie or nutrition shakes (like Ensure, not so much Carnation Instant Breakfast as it has less of what you need). They will give you calories, you won't hit a crash, and it does a decent job of replacing breakfast. I also have a dip too, but I can't say I'd recommend that. A banana if you can choke it down (yes, I know that can be taken many different ways), also wouldn't be bad for you either, and shouldn't be too hard to choke down. As for a day on the field, I say take energy bars, not protein bars, energy bars. I like Snickers Marathon bars because they don't suck, while they are not the best, they are good enough, they are not expensive, and they taste better to me, personally. But eating a few through out the day will help you later.

Drinking water is also not a bad idea, but I will have to disagree with Mike about having to go to the bathroom quite that often. If you hydrate like you should, or at least how a competitive football, basketball, etc. player does (or should be doing) you should be putting easily a gallon of water through out the day and then whatever they drink during practice or their game for about a month before that game. What happens is your body gets used to the extra water and you body will naturally hold more water, and you will have to piss less often as it will just be normal for you. Also drink a Gatorade the night before so you will have a full compliment of electrolytes in your body the next day.

Also, that last part is more important for guys in summertime scenario games like OK D-Day, where it's hot and humid. The heat will make you sweat more, but the humidity will inhibit you natural cooling system AKA sweating. The higher the humidity, the harder it is for sweat to evaporate. This wouldn't be a problem, except for the faster your sweat evaporates the more you are cooled off, thereby not allowing your body to cool off. So not only do you have something over heating you, you have something inhibiting you natural ability to cool off. It's why a girl I dated, from Arizona, got to OU and was knocked on her ass despite it being a little hotter in the dessert.

One thing about nutrition that people forget is what you eat the night before. Here is what I like to have

1. Spaghetti w/ sauce
a. Sauce should include; Meat, (preferably hamburger or deermeat, well ground), mushrooms (chopped well), black olives, and anything else you might find rather tasty.
2. Mixed salad. *must have carrots*
3. Loaf of garlic bread
4. Kool-Aid or something like that. Water works just fine too.

IN the morning, I eat

1. some kind of simple carbohydrate
2. WATER
3. Maybe some OJ if I feel like it

During the day

1. Trail Mix, Granola, carrots, celary, or something like that. Dried fruit is awesome!
2. Water Water WATER!

After the day

1. I drink Gatorade. Don't drink it during the day, because Gatorade RESTORES electrolytes. This will give you enough energy to go do something else.

In all honesty though, the main reason I don't eat breakfast is because I don't get up early enough. If I know I'm leaving the house at 8am, I wake up at 7:30 to take a show, get dressed, get my shit together, and go.

Hey, I just found a pretty decent alternative, that even satisfies your sweet tooth.

Go to your local store and try to find the Golden Graham Treat bars. Its the Golden Graham cereal mixed with peanut butter and chocolate. Its not exactly the healthiest breakfast in the world, but it has a good amount of carbs, vitamins, calories, and sugar. And only like 10g fat.

Like I said, its not the healthiest you can do, but it will get you a nice quick sugar boost, and sustain your fuel through the carbs, calories, and vitamins. And that 10g of fat will easily be burned off during a hard day of play.

So if you dont have a lot of time, or find other stuff too bland, give this a shot.

I will laugh as they overwhelm our enemies in a flurry of spotted banana hammocks.

I've done this alot. Generally, when I'd go into summer training, I'd start out pounding the water, and had to piss a lot. After a few weeks, it went back to normal, same water intake, pissing went back to normal. People who don't hydrate like that very often have this problem when they try to put that amount of water in them. Pretty well what happened to all the guys I trained with too.
