I'm compiling posts I've made in other forums and posting it here because I'm usually on this board these days more than others.

Background:
I'm an old school player (started in 89/90) and prior to this gun, I've had a Line SI Bushmaster, A Spyder, A Spyder compact (originals) a 98C. I saw electropneumatics enter the scene and I really liked how quiet they were compared to all the mechanicals. But, they were priced out of my meager junior enlisted (Navy) pay. Eventually, they stopped carrying sight rails and and started sporting double finger triggers and that put them out of my interests (I've never liked how a double finger trigger changes how you grip).

Then, along comes the Ion: a low cost, highly modular, marker. In June/July of 2006, I quickly began to contact various aftermarket grip companies (FBM, PunishersPB, Element) to see if they would make a single finger trigger. Unfortunately nobody showed any interest. I then decided that I would have to go it on my own. So, I looked to take the easiest route- see if I could obtain CAD drawings for the stock grip and then modify it for single trigger before turning it over to a machine shop for CAM (while trying to get folks together for a group buy). Interestingly, Due to a Smart Parts customer service call mis-routing, I got connected with the Ion's Lead SP engineer (Hans)and I inquired about my interest in designing/acquiring a single finger type frame and I was rebuffed (understandably so from an intellectual property standpoint). However, note the time frame: I talked to him in July/August of 2006. Ironically, as I was finishing this project (Mk-1 Version, Fall of 2007), SP released their SP-1 marker. Maybe it was related? :P I'll never know.

It's gone through a couple revisions but, rather than bore you with that stuff, I'll cut to how it is now.

Thanks guys!

Very nice mods bro. How's is perform as far as efficiency, reliability, ect. ?

I've never done a hard efficiency test but, generally I get about a half a case for 2K, if I remember correctly (I always get a fill at the lunch break to get me through the rest of the day/case).

With the previous APE board reliability wasn't that hot (a couple problems during an entire season) as I had problems stemming from soldering the intellilink wires to the solenoid. Since I've switched over to the Virtue, I had a learning curve to get over (Unlike my APE, it didn't like my 9.6v rechargables) but, once I sorted that out, it's been flawless.

It's not a speed demon in ROF however, it's been good enough for me- if I ever get the urge I can switch from the "Big Cell" Mod to the "12v mod" for my Warp which will put me into the low 20s.

Accuracy- as accurate as any paintball gun can get.

Weight- I won't lie- it is heavy for a paintball marker, with a battery and no paint, it's a solid seven pounds but, I really like having the hopper off the top of the gun.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

TechPB-Mike- That means a lot coming from you, given how many paintball guns you've laid your hands on Posted Image

JDLarson11- I probably will (at least as a backup, or maybe for the night portion) but, I'm really looking forward to using First Strike rounds as a primary, and this marker is a bit on the heavy/bulky side to sling it.

i love the single trigger. very classy.
The ultimate truth in paintball is that the interaction between the gun and the player is far and away the largest factor in accuracy, consistency, and reliability.

And yes, Gordon is the sexiest manifestation of "to the front."

Honestly, it's a love/hate relationship. I love it because I very rarely get hit on the gun, and I can use the dot sight up top for one shot-head shots at 75ft or less. I hate it for the weight. It's a bit much for an all day scenario (not unbearable but, not exactly pleasant either).

It'll be with me for showing to curious folks at LL4.
