so why in hell would any logical person buy the more expensive one? I mean even if the board is different you'd put a new one in anyways.

This is my point. If All the components are identical and the only difference is the frame and body materials. Looks like the $300 version is composite frame with aluminum body tube. The $200 version looks to have the composite frame and additional composite in the body. I assume the composite body covers an aluminum tube of some sort for the barrel to thread and for the bolt to slide in. I have no problems with Composite materials, Hell I own 2 Glocks, people assumed they were crap when they 1st came out " The plastic guns ". Turned out to be some of the best made most reliable guns on the planet.

I will have to hold both markers in my hands to see how the body and frame are assembled to determine if the 1 piece aluminum body makes a difference on the way the marker works

I think I figured out the question I had about the difference. Looks like the only difference is the Frame. The UL ($300) mentions the following items that are NOT listed in the description of the ($200) marker. I grabbed the descriptions off the ANSgear site.
http://www.ansgear.com/09_Proto_SLG_Paintball_Gun_Black_p/protoslg09black.htm
1. Compact and Lightweight Single Tube Body Styling Weighing in at only 2lbs 2oz!
2. 09 Proto SLG Composite Ultralite Frame

Other than these 2 items the descriptions of the two markers are identical. Now is the frame difference worth $100. Has anyone held both markers, to feel the differance?

SLG Basic - $200

The 2009 SLG is a hybrid construction of aluminum and composite materials, providing you durability with incredible lightweight function. The SLG's patented Self Closing Valve (SCV) 2 Piece Bolt system allows the marker to operate at a low 145psi. This low operating pressure provides superior accuracy with less paint breakage, and yields an impressive 1500 shots on a 68/4500. Newly refined features such as the pressure release safety button, clamping feedneck, aluminum trigger, internal bolt silencer, hardened steel sear, and aluminum bolt makes the SLG the clear choice in the sea of introductory markers. The 2009 SLG is a perfect example of unequaled quality, meticulous engineering, and unmatched manufacturer support, the benchmarks that make Proto the first name in paintball. SLG UL - $300

The 09 Proto SLG Ultralite comes standard with the new Hyper3 In-Line Air Regulator featuring higher flow, more consistency, and smoother velocity adjustment. Regular maintenance and cleaning are easy with one-tool-one-screw bolt breakdown. The Proto SLG Ultralite consists of solid construction using hardened steel sear, aluminum body and bolt, and a composite Ultralite frame and aluminum trigger. All this adds up to a tournament grade package you can afford. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Features
