Nothing crazy. Some idiot left a fake plant leaning up against a lamp so the dispatch said "smoke condition." Of course, we all got excited and rolled out ready to fight the real stuff....oh well haha.

We don't even have ours anymore (I think). That picture is probably 40+ years old.

Edit: We do, in fact. One of the other Montgomery companies, 53, bought it from us and restored it. We still have it in our house because we have 5 bays and they have 2 :P

The aerial on the far right has since been retired, as well as the white command vehicle and the third truck in from the left....so its not too recent. Some other 46 apparatus:

We were doing some maintenance checks last night so I got to set up our tower and raise the Bronto so we could lift the cab :D We also did some radio/comm drills where we simulated an actual fireground - after getting three stitches in my left middle finger yesterday morning, I had the pleasure of setting up the hydrant one-handed.

Who was it that got that nice dent on his new helmet while doing Extraction Drills again Nick?

That was Christian Aurup. He was working the extrication tool and the door popped off when he wasn't expecting it. He got a pretty solid dent right in is brand-new Cairns 1010.

question for all you firefighties

do you have a machine or something that changes the lights you go through on the truck?

It seems like they always change for you guys as they go through

We do, actually. I can't remember specifically what it is called but it is attached to the light control box and has a sensor that picks up a signal from the truck as we near the light. When it receives the signal, it changes the lights so that we can go through. While they are pretty handy, they don't always work and, at least in my town, not all intersections a)have lights or b)have receivers. Usually we just honk the horn as we're going through an intersection.
