Hey, Forum. My name's Patrick, but most people call me Patches (don't ask why, because even I don't know).
I've been playing Paintball for 7 years now, 3 of which were Woodsball, and 4 of which are Speedball. I haven't played in over a year, because I ended up needing to quit and sell my gear due to some massive financial problems. I'm slowly starting to get back into it now, because I have a stable job, and everything is getting back to normal. Paintball is the love of my life; my one true happy place is the field. Playing Paintball is a high for me; it's where I really feel like I'm myself, and I can do what I love to do more than anything in the world. I am Paintball; I live and breathe it. Some people snort, smoke, or jab a vein for this kind of high, but they'll never come close to it. Why? Because this isn't the kind of high that you get from doing drugs; this is the kind of high that you get from being truly happy, and doing what you want to do. I've made a vow to myself, that once I start playing again, I'll never stop. Ever.
Off of the Paintball field, I'm a totally different person. I'm not malicious, and I'm not aggressive, but when I play Paintball, it's like something awakens inside of me. A side that people rarely see comes out to show itself, and I turn into a driven...force. I don't really know how to describe it. I don't get mean, and I don't get aggravated; I become more focused, and determined than I've ever been in my life. It's like it's a life or death situation, and I play hard; I play to win. At the same time, winning isn't everything to me; I'd rather go out, play my heart out, and have fun than go out and get frustrated because I'm not winning every game. Some people say it's unusual, what with how much you spend to play, that I don't see winning as everything. But, if you can't go out and enjoy playing Paintball, then you're focusing too much; you're losing sight of what Paintball is really all about; being yourself, enjoying yourself, and doing what you love to do. That, is worth more than any trophy.
When I'm not playing Paintball, I'm playing Airsoft, or I'm playing Video Games. In an average week, I play Video Games for at least 10 hours, ha ha, but don't get me wrong; I do have a life, and I do have friends. I also love to be on the Internet, or foll around with my Computer. I'm currently enrolled in on-line classes at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Graphic Design, and it's going...alright, so far, ha ha. I do almost anything that I can to get outside and enjoy the weather with my friends. I just love to have a good time, and it's hard to catch me without a smile on my face, or without making someone laugh. I'm an upbeat guy, and I live fast. I was however, hit by a pretty serious moment in my life on my 19th birthday, when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It has slowed me down some, but I still do what I love to do, and I don't let it get in my way. I live by a lot of Motto's in my life, but one of the newer, and more important ones, is that "I have Diabetes, Diabetes doesn't have me." It's that saying that helps me get through each day, knowing that I will have to live with this condition for the rest of my days on this Earth. I've come to accept it, and learn from it.
Well, I think that pretty much sums it up, ha ha. If you actually read all of that, then I commend you; most people will see it, and immediately think "TL;DR." If you have any questions, or anything like that, shoot me a PM. I'm also looking for people in my area to play some Paintball with once I get all of my gear back (probably not until Spring). So, hit me up!
