We got approval for the paintball field! I wanted to thank everyone who signed the petition, wrote letters, and especially showed up for the hearing. One of the ladies was amazed at how much community support there was for this project and she said that it was the most she had ever seen. For all of those who wanted to view the field we will have a preview of the field this Sunday between 10am and 12pm. Go to the trash drop off in Olowalu and turn right as indicated by the photo below. I look forward to hearing your suggestions on how we should build the field. Unfortunately the will be no shooting at the field until the netting and insurance is in place, so please leave your guns at home

Heres the latest, the 22nd fast approaches and as of now we do not have any people that have filed an opposition and the planning department is recommending approval so we are looking like a green light. If you would like to help out you can do a few things. First you can show up at the Maui Planning Department around 9:00am on the 22nd and wait around for a couple hours (as there are two other projects in front of me) so you can testify for less then 3 minutes (they place a max time limit). Second you can go down to Island Hobbies in the next three days and sign the petition. Three you can write a letter stating how super awesome paintball is and how it kept you and your baby off "the drugs." If you do write a letter start off with:

Please accept my testimony for November 22nd’s hearing.

To the Maui Planning Department Committee Members.

I am in support of the “Proposed Maui Paintball Field And Related Improvements At TMK: (2) 4-8-003: 113 & 114”

Then talk about why and the benefits of a safe insured fun recreational activity. Then end with name, address, and signature.

Then PM me and I will give you my email address and you can send it to me or drop it off at Island Hobbies.

Or finally go HERE HERE HERE and do the online signature.

And be sure to stay tuned for field updates and videos. We will start having field visit days in the next couple of weeks for the curious but no playing till netting and insurance.

Wow, just noticed the field is very close to that highway! Defenitely have some netting up or something

There has to be netting around the whole thing, its going to cost an arm and a leg:( its worth it though, too long Maui has been without a field.

I mean COME ON people, you think "joe Shmo" is going to go from watching 1 ball to 5,000 balls and still be able to follow? The only way they can make this a spectator sport is if they stop "live Style" filming format and put some production value into it. I am NOT saying they should make fake paintball battles, I am trying to say that should slow it down (like 210 frames per second), dissect the move, glorify the tactics, and glorify the common player. I could go on for pages about how to make it a spectator sport but I get payed to do that so I am not going to give it away for free.

I agree, if they want paintball to be a spectator sport, they really do have to put more production into it. They need to use the same highlighting, pausing, slo mo, and angle tools the NFL uses. Because even in football, most of the game is lost on someone who does not know football. Paintball is even worse to watch if you dont know whats going on.

The funny thing is I LOVE paintball, but still can't stand watching the most recent televised shows. If it was not for a few youtube movie makers that have a real nack for filming I would probably not watch it at all.
