Topics I've Started

22 September 2011 - 07:53 PM

I spent a good deal of my afternoon watching the live streaming of the f8 conference, and watched Mark unveil the new facebook layout coming up. It's a lot different than what we have now, although they have been phasing it in, so some of us have more up to date profiles already.

I know a lot of people think that the changes are horrible, I have always liked seeing the updates over the past few years, I've always been quick to adjust to the new style and kind of just forget about what was in the past. With this new format, I'm really looking forward to the timeline, I think it's a really cool, much more visible way to present the things we do than our typical newsfeed. Now I'm not sure if I will connect my netflix/hulu/yahoo news to the timeline, I'm not really sure I want everyone seeing every movie that I watch. My view on acceptable movies is not the same as my siblings views, so direct connecting isn't something I want. If I can somehow limit the movies that are being published I probably would, but it's hard to know without having the profile right in front of me. I like the new news feed as well, I know a lot of people don't, the ticker on the side doesn't bother me one bit, and getting rid of a lot of the crap from the news feed is good. One other feature that has come already that I really like is the fact that you can adjust your subscription to people, removing a subscription doesn't remove the friend, just their posts from the feed, but beyond being able to completely block them, as we have done in the past, we are able to see more or less of a person. So if I really want to see more or less of a family member, but not block them, I can just adjust that, and I think that is awesome...

What are your thoughts on the new layout?

That's the live stream...
