Houston Indoor Tactical Sports

10 July 2012 - 01:37 PM

All of you Houston players, there is a new indoor field located in Northwest Houston! It is set in a commercial office building and simulates Close Quarters Battle (CQB). It is a reball and airsoft course and most of the fields are hallways and offices with various holes and passageways cut out of the walls making the game play very unique. I have been there twice since it opened and it is a blast! Field fee is $25 for a 3 hour session and that includes unlimited paint (reballs) and air, which saves me about $50 every time I go compared to all the other FPO fields around. Combine that with the air conditioning and this is my new favorite place, especially in the summer! Oh yeah and they are open 7 days a week including until 2:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. Definitely check them out!

Protein

22 May 2012 - 12:19 PM

I try to lift about 3 times a week. Are there any benefits to taking protein on days I don't lift? Or should I just stick to taking it on lift days?

Excellent weight loss app

11 April 2012 - 09:33 AM

I have noticed that one of the major themes in this forum is the desire to lose weight. At the end of last year, I decided that, although I was not fat (6'-2", 188), I was heavier than I would like and I really was not happy with the way things were progressing. My wife and I decided it was time to change our diet as well as begin some exercising regularly. I had never dieted before and the idea of counting calories seemed pretty overwhelming to me. I had used apps on my smart phone before for logging running (adidas micoach, pretty neat stuff) so I figured I would look to see if there was anything useful in the app store. I found myfitnesspal and I was blown away. The idea of the app is that you basically log everything you eat during the day, tracking the total number of calories you consume as well as the amount of calories you burn during any exercise. You also enter your age, height, and weight, and then determine the amount of weight you would like to lose or gain each week (+/- 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 lbs) and it produces a calorie goal for each day in order to achieve this weight loss rate. This is all pretty basic stuff and nothing you can't do without a quick google search and a note pad. The real key to the app is the huge database of foods as well as the ability to scan bar codes from your phone, instantly logging your calorie consumption. Additionally, it offers the ability to create and store new recipes or meals so that you don't have to re-enter everything if you eat something specific on a regular basis. The app also contains a huge list of exercises and their corresponding calorie burn, making it easy to track your exercises as well. What I quickly learned was that as long as calories out > calories in, you would lose weight. By logging my calories, I also quickly learned how much a piece of candy or a hamburger "costs" compared to say a grilled chicken sandwich. Just the process of becoming aware of calorie content was enough to dramatically effect how I ate. Within about 3 months I lost 18 pounds and am now at 170. I did this mainly through diet, although I also took up running about 4 days a week, however my wife also lost the same amount of weight in the same amount of time and only exercised for a week, the rest was ONLY diet. The other thing is that now, even though I have increased my caloric intake to more of a "maintenance" level, I still tend not to eat as much as I am "allowed" simply because I am more satiated with smaller servings and I have changed my habbits from eating tons of sugary snacks and fast food to almost eliminating sugary snacks and eating much healthier in general. While I could have accomplished all of this using an excel spreadsheet or a notebook, the app made it very easy to keep track of everything, especially because I always have my phone on me and can immediately update my calories instead of waiting until I got home and forgetting to put something in. Sorry for the huge post, but if you guys have any questions, feel free to ask.

09 February 2012 - 09:46 AM

I frequent Wired's "Danger Room" and I noticed this little gem:

The video shows it is a 68 cal round and the shape looks just like a first strike round. Thoughts?
